5.0 out of 5 stars excellent soundtrack
This is a very well done soundtrack considering that the original elements are missing. I believe some criticism of this release is a bit unwarranted. Only three tracks, The Operation, Phibes' House & Music Box, are of seriously inferior quality. The combined total of these three cues is a minute and forty two seconds, hardly unbearable. 3.0 out of 5 stars something's missing
Yes, Kirchin 's music is very good but we do miss all the rest that was used in the film, particularly the themes played by the mysterious "Big Three", the songs etc...
So the intention behind was to do justice to the composer -Basil Kirchin- whose been a bit betrayed by the film's production as I understand, but then as a listener I miss the more "popular" music...

These three cues apparantly come from a cassette tape recording of the film's soundtrack so they do contain film sound effects. These are the only three tracks that contain sound effects from the film. War March of the Priests also comes directly from the film but the quality is quite listenable. The rest of the tracks come from Basil Kirchin's own archives save for three tracks which come from American International's LP release. So overall the quality is quite good and more importantly preserves some very interesting pieces of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars I "SAW" Dr. Phibes and wanted more, December 3, 2006
This review is from: The Abominable Dr. Phibes [Original Motion Picture Score] (Audio CD)
A classic B-movie with several cameo's from well-known stars of the past.

If you like the SAW series of movies, you may find this movie stimulating.

Vincent Price (scarey movie pioneer) plays our hero, Dr. Phibes, who is mourning the fatal operation on his departed wife. Dr. Phibes pays his medical bill to the 9 operating doctors and nurses by taking pages from the bible.

Surprise surprise bad things happen.

Enjoy this movie classic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Recordings, February 8, 2007
This review is from: The Abominable Dr. Phibes [Original Motion Picture Score] (Audio CD)
I wish I had known that this was an "archival" release, meaning most of the music comes directly off the soundtrack from the movie (even including some of the sound effects). The quality is not what I had expected. I really can't stand to listen to it. Still love the film, though.
