Miss Irma Birmbaum felt funny. She looked at her hands. They had fur. So did her face. She had grown incredibly hairy.

Miss Irma Birmbaum was now an Abominable Snow Teacher!

The toughest teacher in town is back for another hilarious adventure

School is canceled for a snow day! The children are having so much fun that no one thinks about schoolwork. No one but Miss Irma Birmbaum, that is. Who else would ski through a blizzard to bring the children their textbooks?

But on the way a mysterious electric shock transforms Miss Birmbaum into . . . an Abominable Snow Teacher! Can the students show this huge, hairy teacher how to have fun before it's too late?

The fierce but lovable Miss Birmbaum returns in this laugh-out-loud companion to Attack of the 50-Foot Teacher and The Incredible Shrinking Teacher.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 1-3–The tough but dedicated Miss Birmbaum from Attack of the 50-Foot Teacher (2000) and The Incredible Shrinking Teacher (2002, both Holt) is back. When school is canceled for a snow day, the kids go out to play, but Miss Birmbaum skis to school determined to hold class anyway and finds the building locked. Meanwhile, as the children toss snowballs, one accidentally hits a telephone pole and all goes haywire. A mysterious light jumps from the wire and strikes Miss Birmbaum and she is turned into a large and hairy abominable snow teacher. Fans of this series will find the wacky science-fiction details and the main character hilarious. The comical watercolor illustrations provide just the right amount of exaggerated fun for the zany text. While this book can stand alone, readers who know and enjoy the companion titles will be the most enthusiastic about it.–Julie Roach, Malden Public Library, MA

From Booklist

Gr.1-3. Miss Irma Birmbaum, the "toughest teacher in town" and star of The Incredible Shrinking Teacher (2002), is back in another over-the-top tale reminiscent of hokey, old sf movies. So serious about education is Miss Birmbaum that she skis to school one snowy morning, not noticing that frolicking kids all around her are taking a snow day. Birmbaum fans will not be surprised when she suddenly morphs into a hairy white Abominable Snow Teacher. Her students scream and run away when they see her, but all Miss Birmbaum wants to do is practice some multiplication and spelling, perhaps a little geography. Eventually, the bespectacled, beehive-coiffed teacher learns to lighten up . . . a little. Kids will giggle at this eye-rollingly silly story of the clueless, stereotypically strict teacher who doesn't have the sense to play in the snow on a snow day. Passen's comically exaggerated watercolor illustrations of wide-eyed, troll-like children and the monstrous Miss Birmbaum (even in her normal state) steal the show. Karin Snelson

4.0 out of 5 stars great snow day read, November 19, 2004
This review is from: The Abominable Snow Teacher (Hardcover)
Miss Birmbaum is the toughest teacher in town. When the school has a snow day she can't help but try to make it to the school any way! On the way to the school she has a freak accident. A snow ball hits a light pole and sends mysterious lights straight to Miss Birmbaum. This make her grow fur and feel very funny! She has turned into the Abominable Snow Teacher! Will she ever be the same? Read this funny book to find out.

The book was a great picture book for young science fiction fans. The pictures in the book were fun to look at while the story was read aloud.

This would make a great story to share with kids on a winter day. A snow day would be an even better time to read the story! Great book for little ones who enjoy science fiction.
