A great CD from an obscure and underappreciated band., February 9, 2001

Initial State were a four-piece hardcore band with an awesome female vocalist, and as far I know, this is their only release. This CD is one of the heaviest hardcore albums I've ever heard. That's pretty impressive considering how old it is--it was recorded in 1994. The music is chaotic and primal, with quasi-Pagan lyrics. The guitars are heavy and tuned-down (I'd say to about C or B, maybe lower). The drumming is fast at times, groovy at others. The vocals are unbelievably brutal. Initial State's female vocalist puts most male screamers to shame. "Abort the Soul" is one of my favorite albums. It's too bad that Initial State don't get the recognition they deserve.
