Desert-island disc,

This review is from: Abort (Audio CD)
How could this album ever have gone out of print? Fortunately, it's back, so now you've got no excuse -- especially if you enjoy the likes of Hole, Veruca Salt, Lush, Garbage, or The Heartthrobs.
Genius guitar hooks, great vocal harmonies, inspired drumming -- and maybe a *little* too much production, depending on your tastes. (If the latter overpowers the experience for you, there's always _Here at the Home_, which contains earlier versions of most of these songs. It's not exactly easy to find, though.) In its day, _Abort_ was an overlooked alt-emo-goth-power-pop masterpiece. I'm not entirely convinced that its day has ended. I suppose that's partly up to you.

Its a shame they didnt make more albums,

Abort is a wonderful album that never found an audience. Its gothic, punk, pop all at the same time and catchy as hell. Im just going to state what everybody else has already said here and its absolutley true, this band should have been alot bigger. Its a shame they broke up, I think the 3rd time might have been the charm. I blame the record company for not putting more marketing muscle behind this band. I remember when their 2nd album Sleeper came out, the record store only had one copy sent to them which I bought and there was absolutley no advertising for this album or sleeper. Abort and Sleeper are both great albums and I still listen to them today and they still sound fresh. Hopefully they will get together again in the future and make another album.

One of my Favorite Bands Ever - And Widely unknown!,
By

Another one of those local Boston groups that really should have gone big time, but for some reason or another, didn't. It didn't matter if you were listening to them live or on CD, but they captivated audiences and energized them. Their music had an almost hauntingly frank quality to it, and Abort is no exception. My favorite of the two albums, it is both soft and razor sharp at times, but always quality. Even the raw edges, where you can find them, only served to make them more of a find.

Why wasn't this band huge?,

My title of this review says it all. Tribe should have been a household word. I think it was a case of bad timing or bad management....I'm not sure but the fact remains that the world truly missed one of this countries great bands. If you were lucky enough to see them perform live you would agree. Abort is a must have CD.

Fantastic Band,

My sister lived down the street from where the band's house/little studio in Brighton - and gave me a copy of their demo tape (what became Abort) around 1990. I was hooked. As good as Abort is, the demo was edgier, louder, more pure - basically what this band brought live. I still listen to Abort, and nver seem to grow tired of it.

A Boston Footnote,
By A Customer

I saw them at TT the Bear's Place once by accident and was blown away by the stop and start mayhem they produced. Tribe rocked and the always grimey crowd at TTs was at its grimmest best. A ground breaking band that seemed to be on its way to something big.

Abort is a great disc. The single Joyride introduced me to this phenominal band long ago. Their second release sleeper is just as good if not better than Abort. They also have a disc that was released in the Boston area only. I believe it's called pinwheel. Awesome band.. I mourn that they no longer release music

A perfect album,

The early 90's was a great time for music, but as a result a lot of great bands were overlooked in the wake of giants like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and REM. And nowadays. . . .well, most of today's music is corporation formulated garbage. If you happened to miss this album like I almost did (I was lucky to hear the song "Joyride" on some local channel, otherwise I may never have heard of them)then I STRONGLY suggest you buy it. Every song on this album is an absolute gem, and it so well produced that it could easily pass as new. You owe it to yourslef to give it a try. I just wish they were still around.

It's A Crime That They Faded Away,

I'm glad this album got a re-release in 2001, because it was my favorite album of 1991. It is so strong, that I ranked it just ahead of U2's Achtung Baby for best album of '91. Man, I cannot believe it's been about 14 years!
The early 90's were incredible for alternative music, and Tribe's Joyride (I Saw The Film) would be the perfect time capsule video for the time. If it weren't for MTV's 120 Minutes (back when they actually played some music videos), I never would have known about this exciting Boston band. Their second album was excellent, also, and the more raw demo(?) "Here At The Home", which I have on tape, contains excellent earlier versions of some of the songs. This album is a classic, and if you can get ahold of a copy, I HIGHLY recommend it.

One of the most underrated bands of the 90's,
By john underwood (PA) - See all my reviews

I just happened to see this band perform on 8 seperate occasions. Toured with the Psychedelic Furs and completely stole the show. They were nothing short of mesmerizing. Abort was the closest testament to what this band can do, but it does fall short. Great record anyhow!
