The 20th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade landmark abortion ruling is the occasion for this edited work in the "Landmark Decisions and Landmark Law" series. In attempting to provide the Court's main legal ideas, the editors present 20 major abortion cases from Roe v. Wade (1973) to Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992). The editing is objective--in most instances excerpts from majority, concurring, and dissenting opinions are included--but sometimes blurs the main principles. The selection informs general readers about the range of abortion issues the Court has ruled on, and the edited case versions provide good factual summaries. Both federal and state cases on abortion regulation are recognized, and often both sets of cases are presented. Nevertheless, the general adult reader will have difficulty following constitutional principles underlying abortion rulings.
