About the Author
Graham Saunders lectures in Theatre Studies at the University of Reading. He is author of Love me or Kill me: Sarah Kane and the Theatre of Extremes (Manchester: MUP, 2002) and a series editor for Continuum's Modern Theatre Guides. He has contributed articles on contemporary British and Irish drama to journals including Modern Drama, Journal of Beckett Studies, Contemporary Theatre Review, Theatre Research International, New Theatre Quarterly and Studies in Theatre and Performance. He is currently completing a co-edited collection entitled Cool Britannia? British Political Theatre in the 1990s for Palgrave and a short monograph study of Patrick Marber's play Closer for Continuum Press. Philip Roberts is Emeritus Professor of Theatre Studies in the University of Leeds. He is the author of The Royal Court Theatre 1965-1972 (Routledge); The Royal Court Theatre and the Modern Stage (Cambridge University Press); and (with Max Stafford-Clark), Taking Stock: the Theatre of Max Stafford-Clark (Nick Hern Books).

This is a very good resource for readers of Sarah Kane's plays because it helps to not only familiarize readers about some of the inter-textual references in Kane's plays, but also shows how smart Kane was as a playwright. The text contains nearly 70 pages of interview material with Kane, which proves to be the real gem of the text. Readers of this book will have a new found appreciation for Kane's plays since many of the literary references and dramaturgical innovations of Kane's plays are underscored throughout the text. The book also contains interviews with theatre artists who worked with Kane, as well as others close to her work and who were involved in the production of the plays. All in all, I appreciate this text more than the earlier book on Kane by Saunders, _Love me or kill me: Sarah Kane and the theatre of extremes_.
