My son really enjoys all of the books in this series. I like that the illustrations are realistic and that species names are included. And as he gets older he really enjoys the additional information that's included in the back of the book!

As a parent and educator, I was very pleased to discover this book series. The wonderful illustrations and simple text make a very quick and stimulating read for very young children. My daughter loves them!

Beautiful illustrations. The text is very simple so it is appropriate for toddlers and young preschoolers. There is a bit more info on some of the reptiles at the back of the book. It is nice as part of the series when explaining different families of animals to toddlers.

13 sentences,

There is not much to this book. Each double page spread has (up to) one sentence. This is all that is in it:Reptiles have dry, scaly skin. Some reptiles have a hard, bony plate. Reptiles have short legs... or no legs at all. They move by crawling... or by swimming. Reptiles need warm temperatures. They hibernate in cold, winter weather. Most reptiles are meat eaters. A few eat meat and plants. Some reptiles use venom to capture their prey. Baby reptiles hatch from eggs. In some reptiles, the mother carries the eggs inside her body until they are ready to hatch. Young reptiles care for themselves as soon as they hatch. Reptiles are important to us. There is no mention that ALL reptiles have skin made of scales, are cold blooded, have spines or backbones, etc. The last sentence is an odd way to end the book as there is no explanation why reptiles are important to us! There is an afterward at the back of the book that expands on the picture that goes with each sentence but it is too awkward to go back and forth while reading.

Very well suited for my preschoolers. The series of books make teaching Animal Classification, their characteristics and habitat so much fun for the kids. They are also inspired to read the text because of its simplicity.
