5.0 out of 5 stars THE MOST ENTHRALLING PUNK ROCK ALBUM I'VE EVER HEARD
On their fourth release on Epitaph Records, Pennywise cut the bulls**t and get straight to the issues of real life, but still manage to push a positive message. Words simply can't describe the awesome power of their music, the fury, the message, yet at the same melodic and very competent. This is many steps above the NOFX's and Green Days of the genre, this is music...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Fairly Good Punk Album
I have to admitt this album is pretty good but it lacks soem of the hardcore driving lest speed powered earlier pennywise songs. The first few songs make the album seem promising but if your not intensly listeningi to the cd u may find the rewst boring because they all kind of blend due to lack a variety in sounds. I love this kind of punk and do enjoy this album but...

5.0 out of 5 stars THE MOST ENTHRALLING PUNK ROCK ALBUM I'VE EVER HEARD, March 3, 1999
This review is from: About Time (Audio CD)
On their fourth release on Epitaph Records, Pennywise cut the bulls**t and get straight to the issues of real life, but still manage to push a positive message. Words simply can't describe the awesome power of their music, the fury, the message, yet at the same melodic and very competent. This is many steps above the NOFX's and Green Days of the genre, this is music that will really make you stop and think. The album kicks off in grand fashion with "Peaceful Day", a stirring statement about the daily struggles we face at home, at work, as well as internally. The second track "Waste Of Time", is a two minute punk epic that takes some very hearty, insightful, and biased mind you, looks at organized religion. Track four, "Every Single Day" is a statement about getting on with it, and enduring when life gets you down. The lyrics, "I will make mistakes that everyone makes until I find my way/then start over and live every single day. Track five, "Searching" really strikes a chord with anyone who has ever tried to sort their life out, with the chorus "Tonight I will rage against the forces of fate/the tide is turning my way/you should know better than to mess with me. "Same Old Story" is truly the stand out track on the album, which deals with the struggle for a young man to define himself on his own terms, and not his fathers expectations. From start to finish, Pennywise's "About Time" delivers the lyrics, the message, and the edge not found in most contemporary artists today like the Matchbox 20 and Sugar Ray. Its "ABOUT TIME" listeners opened their eyes to the band called Pennywise...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Punk and Non-punk listening, October 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: About Time (Audio CD)
For those of you who don't mind punk but never really got into it, this album is for you. Pennywise is good music that everyone who likes fast, hard, well written, lyrics will like whether you are a fan of punk, classic rock, or hardcore. "Peaceful Day" and "Searching" are the two best songs on "About Time." If you haven't heard this band before the first one you should buy is "About Time." It is good to pump you up into a positive mood. If you can see them live!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best pennywise cd period., August 23, 2003
By
This review is from: About Time (Audio CD)
I own all the pennywise cd's and this one is deffintly the best one by far. Songs like " peaceful day, perfect people, waste of time, same old story, searching, freebase, try, it's what you dp with it and every single time" are songs that made pennywise famous. deffintly pick this one if you're getting into punk or are into music generally.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Punk Masterpiece.........., March 8, 2002
By
This review is from: About Time (Audio CD)
Without a doubt, this CD, is the fastest, most powerful, most ear pounding, competent, energy filled, emotion evoking, air-guitar promoting, most lyrically screamable, start to finish punk production of all-time. One wonders if it will ever be outdone. With that said, the review could end now. But alas, we have only scratched the surface............
Firstly, Pennywise. Is there any other name of a group that makes you think more of Punk Rock. Maybe Bad Religion or NOFX, but sorry music fans. The Gods are found here. They are the most professionally motivated punkers on the planet and "About Time" justifies this in so many ways.
This 12 track collection is of epic proportions (see above). Every song is fast, lyrically competent and pounding to the last note. The tracks string together so perfectly, and the speed never lets up from break-neck. It's hard to really get across how amazingly powerful this Album is. But two words are all that are needed to some it up. THE BEST. If you are a punk rock fan, or dabble in the arts, no matter what your perception of Pennywise is, you should own this CD. Punk Rock without this Album would be a very distrubing place, one i would not want to be apart of. Although every song is awesome, there is of course standouts, and lots of them. Peaceful Day, Waste Of Time, Perfect People, but the two epics lie at end of the Album. Same Old Story, a punk anthem, and Killing Time. The close of Killing Time (and therefore close of the CD)is so powerful it will give you goosebumps. With all that said there shouldn't be any doubt in anyones mind about this album. A Must Have in every respect. Get it, be moved by it (by the way, not moved in the crying sense, but moved in a new perception of life, want to break things and change society for the better sense). A True Masterpiece of Punk Rock.
In closing, one wonders if, the Bro Hymn Tribute, found on Full Circle (the true anthem in Punk Music, most synonymous amongst punk fans and the most powerful and meaningfully moving song of all-time) had it been slotted on this CD, would "About Time" have become the unrivalled, unmovable number 1 CD for the ages. One shudders to think how this Album could have somehow been made better. But that i think is the only way possible. What a thought. But if that tribute had been added. Amazon would have to, for one time only, add another star or 10 to the rating bar. It would be justifyable......no doubt.............

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Punk CD, Definitely rocks the socks, March 3, 2001
This review is from: About Time (Audio CD)
Unfortunately as many of you long time fans know, this is the last cd with bassist, Jason Thirsk :(

Jason was a great bassist too as you can tell from this cd. It's always the most talented that pass.

Anyway, i love this cd the most of all the Pennywise cds, which is a very bold statement. (Though I still don't have Straight Ahead and the Word To The Wise EP)

This is the album where Pennywise really defined their sound. Songs like "Freebase", "Killing Time", "Same Old Story", "Try", "It's What You Do With It" and the classic "Perfect People" make this a MUST OWN cd.

I'm serious, just get this cd, it's absolutely great, you will NOT be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk for the perfect people, February 2, 2001
By
This review is from: About Time (Audio CD)
Anyone that thinks Blink 182 is punk should check out Pennywise, as it'll definately change their mind. The nice thing is, Pennywise has, in its 12 years of existance, stuck to the one thing they do best - pure punk. Are you sick of boy bands and Britney clones? Give Perfect People a listen. It's the, um, perfect song for you. This is probably Pennywise's most accessible album (and my favorite after the live one), even more so than Straight Ahead or Full Circle. It's got some good stuff on it, like Perfect People, Same Old Story, Homesick, Peaceful Day, and I Wont Have It. If you're getting into Pennywise with Straight Ahead or the live one, and wondering what to purchase next, you should get this first, then Full Circle, then Unknown Raod, and so on.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Punk Album, February 28, 2006
This review is from: About Time (Audio CD)
While it won't go down in history with And Out Come the Wolves..., Against the Grain, Punk in Drublic, or Dookie (nor will any Pennywise album), it is still one of the better albums of the modern punk age or whatever the hell you want to call it. To me, Pennywise is a cross between Bad Religion and NoFX in that they retain somewhat of a hardcore-edgy/semi-melodic sound but are also very drvien by more catchy, pop-like riffs and vocals. This album displays that sound very nicely, with some damn catchy and well-done tracks such as Peaceful Day, Every Single Day, and Killing Time.

The problem is that Pennywise is no where near the calibur of BR or NoFX, mainly because I think their sound is almost too straightforward and their lyrics too simple. And while I'm a huge fan of simplicity, this album just feels a little too plain. And as is the annoying thing with many punk records, all the songs sound the same. What makes it worse is that the track names are all very similar as well. But if you can get past that, I think this is a brilliant little album that is worth the pruchase for any fan of punk music
