5.0 out of 5 stars User-Friendly Guide, October 26, 2007
This review is from: About.com Guide to Web Design: Build and Maintain a Dynamic, User-Friendly Web Site Using HTML, CSS and Javascript (About.com Guides) (Paperback)
Part of my job as a Web designer/developer is to stay on top of current best practices, technology and software. This book covers all of that in a comprehensive but concise package.

The author goes a step beyond discussing what you can and can't do with a Web site, and offers practical, understandable reasons why, and specific examples of when a particular technique or technology is appropriate.

Like a well designed Web site, the book is well organized and easily readable. The links to the author's own website and others are well chosen, adding depth to the subject, and demonstrating an effective way to create a multimedia approach in which each medium plays a specific role, each complimentary to the other.

This is, by far, the best book of its kind that I've seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply The Basics, January 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: About.com Guide to Web Design: Build and Maintain a Dynamic, User-Friendly Web Site Using HTML, CSS and Javascript (About.com Guides) (Paperback)
There are hundreds of books out there that teach you how to build a website, but none distill the process down as clearly and concisely as Jennifer Kyrnin has in this publication. The text is very simple to follow along, even if you haven't the slightest idea on how to build a site using HTML. Confronting HTML for the first time can be intimidating enough. But Kyrnin gives you a cursory overview of the basics - leaving the more complex programming tasks such as working in java script and databases to other resources. She introduces you to e-commerce and flash; again leaving the nuances and complexities of these areas to other resources. Kyrnin provides a host of examples and also refers you to her blog on [...] for further detail. I have read several other books in basic website construction: Learning Web Design by Robbins and HTML 4 Dummies by Tittel and Burmeister. I would highly recommend that the beginning web desiger read Kyrnin's book first. I know I wish I had.
