Without weapons or any communication with the outside world, Jared must figure out how to wrest the fate of the nation away from terrorists bent on obliterating the American way of life.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Bruce Herschensohn is a skillful novelist, as well as an acknowledged expert on national security. ABOVE EMPYREAN is not only spell-binding but substantive, chilling and important."
--Michael Medved, nationally syndicated talk radio host

"Bruce pours into a thriller a lifetime of lessons on how governments and spies really work. Most novelists can only guess how presidents and the people who serve them react to crisis. Bruce has been there and his book pulses with the realism that only writers who have been inside the Oval Office can bring."
--Hugh Hewitt, radio talk show host, law professor, author

"It's captivating to read Bruce Herschensohn when he's writing non-fiction. This fictional novel, Above Empyrean is even better! Let's hope it remains fiction."
--Congressman Dana Rohrabacher

"Bruce Herschensohn's knowledge of the world and foreign policy is almost unmatched."
--Sean Hannity, Co-Host, Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes Show

"Bruce Herschensohn is principled, courageous, and insightful. His book will surely be enlightening."
--Ann Coulter, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of Godless

BRUCE HERSCHENSOHN IS AN AMERICAN TREASURE WHOSE LIFE HAS BEEN DEVOTED TO THE PURSUIT AND PRESERVATION OF LIBERTY. ABOVE EMPYREAN, WRITTEN IN BRUCE'S EASY-TO-READ STYLE IS HIS EFFORT TO PROVIDE A WAKE UP CALL FOR AMERICA. IN THAT SENSE, BRUCE IS VERY MUCH A 21st CENTURY PAUL REVERE, AND ABOVE EMPYREAN IS BRUCE'S EFFORT TO SOUND THE ALARM - "THE ISLAMISTS ARE COMING" - WORSE YET, THEY ARE HERE!. IT IS A MUST READ FOR ALL, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO THINK THAT THE CURRENT PERIL IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. BY FICTIONALIZING THE PERIL, BRUCE HAS MADE IT EASIER FOR THE POLITICALLY UNINVOLVED TO PERCEIVE THE DANGER IN A "THRILLER" CONTEXT, i.e. BY PUTTING OUR CURRENT DILEMNA IN THE FORM OF A NOVEL, BRUCE HAS ONLY MORE FORCEFULLY MADE THE POINT. IT IS AN ENERTAINING READ, BUT, MORE TO THE POINT, AS NOTED, IT IS A MUST READ!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Very Good January 21, 2013
Format:Hardcover
This book was not very good.

I had some hopes for it, and even kept hoping 50 pages in (which about 25% of this book) that something plausible and well developed would be introduced... but it never happened.

There are a number of aspects to take issue with in this book, so I'll pick one - plausibility. There are authors who can take a socially or scientifically distant concept and make it believable in the context of their story. That simply isn't done here. There are vague references to how a creative genius and a disperse group of technologically adept citizens makes the move that eventually assures victory, but the explanation remains... well, vague. Not everyone needs to be Michael Chrichton when it come to the Sci Fi side of a story, but some attempt at explanation would have been an improvement on what I just read.

The plausibility of the basic premise of the book (an assault on and takeover of the US and Allies by sleeper cells of Militant Jihadis) is more than a stretch. There are simply not enough militant Islamists in the world to pull off what the author takes as given in the opening pages of the book, to say nothing of the likely response of normal American following an all-out attack within the Homeland itself.

...just not very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read! June 25, 2008
Format:Hardcover
One the best and most insightful books I have read in a long time. For anyone who doesn't believe our national security is important, you must read this book. This book really makes me appreciate the country we live in and the freedoms we enjoy. Bruce Herschenson shines with real life look at what our lives could be become if America veers off course in the War on Terror. This book will make you think long and hard about what is important to you, and how you would react if that was suddenly taken away. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE WAR ON TERROR COMES HOME May 3, 2014
By K. Jump
Format:Kindle Edition
What if Islamic fundamentalists conquered America? Most of us would agree that is a frightening concept, and yet few Americas seem to consider it a possible scenario. Why not? The answer, I think, is that most Americans simply don't want to face up to the reality of the nature and scope of the threat militant Islam poses to our nation and to the world at large. Bruce Herschensohn cuts through all the politically correct blinders in his novel, ABOVE EMPYREAN, detailing the manner in which our enemies could conceivably achieve victory over us despite our apparent superiority in force of arms. Herschensohn examines the policies that have continued to undercut the War on Terror on the mentality of those in America who have never been willing to even admit that such a war exists. The author clearly loves America and what our nation stands for, and he has written a stern letter of warning for all those who want to stick their head in the sand and pretend nothing bad can happen to us, despite the historical record to the contrary. One of the great strengths of ABOVE EMPYREAN is that it isn't overdone...Herschensohn's prose is clean and laser-focused, and he manages to tell a story that covers all the salient points without getting lost in itself. Though a quick read, ABOVE EMPYREAN is tremendously powerful, populated by memorable characters and written in an authoritative, engrossing prose style. At once sobering and inspirational, ABOVE EMPYREAN is an important novel that every patriot should read.

1.0 out of 5 stars the worst book I've read since Mien Kampf May 15, 2013
Format:Hardcover
Really the worst book I've read in a long, long time! Bad writing, bad characterization, very unlikely story. Come on, Islamist terrorists take over America? No real attempt to explain how this could happen. Reads like a survivalists wet dream after watching "red dawn". And what's with the main character Eli Jared( a thinly disguised version of the author) and his kindly manner and his very unlikely love affair with the lissome Traci, give me a break!

My first instinct was to stop reading and burn it; but it was so bad, so stinking rotten, I had to keep it long enough to write this review. Now into the burn barrel!

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth the money June 21, 2012
By mjd
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book at DollarTree--where everything's a dollar. With sales tax, I paid $1.08; as my title says, it was NOT worth the money.

So many plot holes, so many weird grammatical constructions that forced me to re-read a sentence or paragraph several times to figure out the meaning. So very, very, very one-sided. Add to this a pathetic love story thrown in to--well, I really don't know what purpose it served.

Well, I don't have to buy any more books written by Bruce Hersschensohn and that's a very good thing.
