5.0 out of 5 stars Finally......Someone gets it!
Above Empyrean, by Bruce Herschensohn, finally tells the story of what will happen if the U.S. looses the war against Islamic Radicals. This book is terrific, and details the heroic story of patriotic Americans trying to retake the country they love from the grips of radical fanatics that have succeeded in destroying America from within. This is a "must read" for anyone...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I wanted to like this book. I've heard many good things about Herschensohn and to the extent I can make out his premise I agree with it. Unfortunately this book reads as though the author submitted his story outline for publication instead of an actual novel.

Spoilers below--if it's possible to spoil this thing any more that the author already has.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally......Someone gets it!, June 19, 2008
This review is from: Above Empyrean: A Novel of the Final Days of the War on Islamic Terrorism (Hardcover)
This is a "must read" for anyone who intends to vote in the upcoming presidential election. Herschensohn's obvious knowledge of how the American government works, and what contingencies exist for its survival is the basis for this great thriller.

This is a great read, and I recommend it to anyone who cares about America.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ FOR ALL THOSE WHO WISH TO PRESERVE AMERICA, June 23, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Above Empyrean: A Novel of the Final Days of the War on Islamic Terrorism (Hardcover)
BRUCE HERSCHENSOHN IS AN AMERICAN TREASURE WHOSE LIFE HAS BEEN DEVOTED TO THE PURSUIT AND PRESERVATION OF LIBERTY. ABOVE EMPYREAN, WRITTEN IN BRUCE'S EASY-TO-READ STYLE IS HIS EFFORT TO PROVIDE A WAKE UP CALL FOR AMERICA. IN THAT SENSE, BRUCE IS VERY MUCH A 21st CENTURY PAUL REVERE, AND ABOVE EMPYREAN IS BRUCE'S EFFORT TO SOUND THE ALARM - "THE ISLAMISTS ARE COMING" - WORSE YET, THEY ARE HERE!. IT IS A MUST READ FOR ALL, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO THINK THAT THE CURRENT PERIL IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. BY FICTIONALIZING THE PERIL, BRUCE HAS MADE IT EASIER FOR THE POLITICALLY UNINVOLVED TO PERCEIVE THE DANGER IN A "THRILLER" CONTEXT, i.e. BY PUTTING OUR CURRENT DILEMNA IN THE FORM OF A NOVEL, BRUCE HAS ONLY MORE FORCEFULLY MADE THE POINT. IT IS AN ENERTAINING READ, BUT, MORE TO THE POINT, AS NOTED, IT IS A MUST READ!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read!, June 25, 2008

One the best and most insightful books I have read in a long time. For anyone who doesn't believe our national security is important, you must read this book. This book really makes me appreciate the country we live in and the freedoms we enjoy. Bruce Herschenson shines with real life look at what our lives could be become if America veers off course in the War on Terror. This book will make you think long and hard about what is important to you, and how you would react if that was suddenly taken away. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A shout against the ever increasing political stupidity in our land, August 31, 2008
By

This review is from: Above Empyrean: A Novel of the Final Days of the War on Islamic Terrorism (Hardcover)
This isn't so much a novel or thriller or war book but instead it's a warning about how unserious we are as a country.

It's the author's attempt to grab us up out of our chair by our shirt , slap us in the face, and say "GET OUT OF YOUR DAZE.... YOUR COUNTRY IS AT RISK"

A feeling that grows stronger inside me with each day.

Don't read this book for a plot, or its dialog, or its settings because this book in not concerned with that... read this book if you feel like you're in the ever shrinking population of people who realize that our nation is in extreme jeopardy..and it seems no one in Washington cares or is capabile of defending us.

The War against Jihadism began in Afghanistan but Americans should have CONSTANTLY been told.. week after week. that it doesn't end there. It doesn't end in Iraq.. It doesn't end in Iran...It won't end in Syria... the war is everywhere.

Everywhere that there exists those who wish to impose Sharia Law , there is the war. Who will win? Which side is willing to do what it takes to ensure its values endure?

Sadly, not us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Herschensohn is a brilliant writer!, June 25, 2008
This review is from: Above Empyrean: A Novel of the Final Days of the War on Islamic Terrorism (Hardcover)
Above Empyrean is a finely crafted novel that clearly states the obvious outcome if we allow "political correctness" to dictate our War on Islamic Terrorist, and the policies of the U.S. This book picks up on the story of America on the day the war is lost, and systematically, through literary excellence and an uncanny awareness of how the government would work even after it is taken over by Islamic Radicals in its ability to survive and fight back. This could be a great political thriller on the big screen, but until that happens, the book will serve as the best insight into our "possible" future. This book truly shows the American Spirit and pursuit of Liberty, even when faced with the unthinkable. GREAT BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars not just a thriller...., July 6, 2008
By
This review is from: Above Empyrean: A Novel of the Final Days of the War on Islamic Terrorism (Hardcover)
This book is a real page turner and way too close to current day reality to be comforting. But it's also an amazing love story. One that is told with subtlety; where what is not said is equally as important as what is said. My only sadness is that it ended all too soon. For those who want historical accuracy and a passion from days gone by. The characters of the book give voice to all of us who have felt frustration and excerbation by the naivete and ignorance of others who actually think we want a war. By the way, if this leaves you wanting more, try Hershensohn's "Passport"

The book is confused and confusing from the start. It's nearly impossible to sort out the good guys from the bad guys. The story, to the extent one even exists, is confusing, disjointed, haphazard and, frankly, just plain dumb. As near as I can tell, the head good guy has had a computer genius working on some kind of super dupper computer simulation for several years before the book begins. At a critical point in the "story" said computer genius is pulled out of thin air with a way to retake the United States using some kind of high tech computer generated video. The method and means are never explained in any coherent fashion, it just kind of happens.

All in all this is the most disappointing book I have read in a very long time, maybe ever.

1.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this book, September 2, 2008

Andrew P (El Dorado, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Above Empyrean: A Novel of the Final Days of the War on Islamic Terrorism (Hardcover)
While I agree with the author about the threat of Islamic terrorism, I found this book to be simplistic in its writing and lacking explanation of major plot points. I have no idea how the enemy was defeated. It's fantasy science fiction beyond anything I've seen on Star Trek. It's not enough to like a book because you agree with the author, you need to be satisfied with the overall story. I was not. I was reminded of a movie released several years ago, "The Day After Tomorrow" which told of the impending doom of global warming. The film reviewer in San Francisco said something to the effect, While this movie lacks certain plausibility issues, I'm giving it 5 stars because everyone needs to see this and fight global warming. I'm sorry, but a bad movie is a bad movie, and a bad book is a bad book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Facsinating premise, well told, and an important read, July 22, 2008
By
Peter R (Nashville, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Above Empyrean: A Novel of the Final Days of the War on Islamic Terrorism (Hardcover)
Above Empyrean conveys to the reader a fictional account of what may very well happen to the United States if the war against Islamic extremist is not considered the preeminent issue of survival. The destruction of the U.S. is constantly expressed by those who want to see America destroyed.

"Death to America" may seem like simply a chant regarded as a rallying point for anti-American sentiment throughout the Islamic world, but it is clear that they "mean it."

I would recommend that everyone who loves America read this important and clarion "wake-up" call to American voters.
