Best CD I have purchased in years...,

This review is from: Above The Golden State (MP3 Download)
This debut from Above The Golden State is amazing. I liked it right away, but every time I listen to it I love it more. Every song is great and the musical variety throughout makes this CD a musical adventure. It is hard to pick my favorites because they are all great for different reasons. However, if I was given only two choices I would have to select; "The Haunting" and "Streets". If you are considering purchasing this CD, I encourage you, you will not be disappointed. You will enjoy the varitety of instruments, including clarinet and cello or violin. Michael Watson has a unique voice and the variety of backup vocals are a perfect touch. I can't say enough about this debut, I can't wait to hear more from this band!

Wow! Watch out for this group!,

This one has the repeat factor. I only get inspired a couple of times a year to write a review about a group that I just discovered and this one does that for sure! I've only been listening for 24 hours and I can't get enough. A bit of Beatles meets Brandon Heath meets Leeland meets MercyMe meets Switchfoot(the slower Jon Foreman stuff)?Very creative melodies, lyrics and composition. Produced very well. Favorites(at least in the first 24hrs) are The Streets, Love, The Sound of Your Name. Keep an eye on this group!

I saw the video to "Sound of your name" on the Gospel music channel and was hooked right away. This is quality work that deserves to be heard by the masses. Every song on the disc is thoughtful, well written and pleasing to listen to. We should be hearing alot more about this group in the future--I hope.

This band is amazing! It's like Leeland with a little bit of Beatles, early Weezer feel--really cool stuff. The songs on this album are really inspirational. I can't wait to see what these guys will create in the future!6/17/09 I just met these guys today...really nice people. They're in the process of recording some new stuff so be on the look-out for that!

Musical style very similar to Jars of Clay. Clean, uplifting lyrics that both entertain and have a bit of a mellow feel for those slow, lazy days.

Pretty darn good!,

I just had to take a quick minute to let everyone know that this is a very good CD. I'm glad I bought it when it was 1.99 I now know that I would have paid full price for this. The two songs you'll probably know from the radio are: "Sound of Your Name" and "I'll Love You So". Get the CD and enjoy it!

Solid release, but I wanted more.,

With any new band, you really want to be blown away by their debut album; that way, you'll know they'll be around for a while. In the case of ATGS, I think they'll definitely be back. The album itself is very good, but not amazing. Granted, this is coming from someone who MOSTLY (not always) listens to Christian rock. The opener "Loud and Clear" starts off the album with one of their more rocking tracks. The rest of the album keeps a more acoustic/pop-rock feel; think Secondhand Serenade and Dashboard, but a bit more on the rock side. But if you're looking for something a bit more mellow and still uplifting group, I think your niche has finally been tapped. I can't wait to see what these guys will do next.

A New Favorite!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I love this band. I had already downloaded three of their songs through ITunes, "Sound of Your Name", "I'll Love You So", and "Scared". I liked them so much I have been thinking about getting the whole album. Now Amazon has it offered for $1.99!! I am so excited to hear the rest of their music!! Thanks Amazon!!!P.S. I wish people wouldn't rate an item based on what Amazon did (not sending the CD), it brings the rank of the item down unfairly. This is an amazing group, you won't be disappointed.

Heart and Head,

I'm over 40 years old. I heard "Sound of Your Name" on the radio a couple weeks ago. I got the album on amazon.com. I'm only a couple years behind but I was so impressed with them. I loved the way they touch your heart with a song and make you think at the same time. It's not all "touchy feely"...it has substance. I pray they will be able to continue. Thanks guys.

Great Stuff,

Overall, it's a pop/rock kinda thing they have going on but it's done perfectly. Songs range from just downright PERFECT to kinda beatle-esque on a couple. With only a couple of not-so-great filler songs it's well worth every penny. I know this is technically Christian but you probably wouldn't notice unless you're analyzing every lyric. I bought this and never knew it was Christian until I read up on the band. I guess that one song where he says JESUS should have tipped me off...but what can I say, it's just good pop/rock that doesn't drown in secular, superficial worship lyrics.Best Songs: Reel to Reel I'll Love You So Love Sound Of Your Name |
