A doorway to another world,
By
This review is from: Above Top Secret: Uncover the Mysteries of the Digital Age (Paperback)
Delve deeply into the conspiracy theories of the Internet by reading this book! For anyone that has even as much as questioned the version of history that they have been told, this book should serve as a great introduction into the vast amount of information available online. What was truly valuable about this book was the broad range of topics covered, from the JFK assassination to the Roswell UFO crash. The presentation of both the theories and factual information known about such cases are presented and only cause the reader to want to know more. This book should be seen as doorway into the truly expansive community that Above Top Secret represents. Do not pass this up if you've ever bother to stop and think to yourself, is there more to this than what I've been told?

Mr. Marrs does not disappoint. These are some of the biggest conspiracy topics of the day, that are well defined, well documented, that WILL make you think more deeply about our current lives. If you read this book first before any other of Mr. Marrs' work, it's a great introduction. The only question remains, what next? You know Mr. Marrs, I've heard you speak of NASA using Astrology for space launches, so perhaps it would be good to see a book on Astrology, Numerology, and the Tarot, in one well researched volume showing how they might have impacted us yesterday, today, and in the future. I do believe that they all interconnect anyway. How about it? I look forward to your future works~!

Having read the book and having the pleasure with my partner, Johnny Anonymous with the ATS MIX Show, interview Jim Marrs.... I can tell you that this is a MUST READ for those that want answers to the questions that have always nagged you and made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. There are numerous conspiracies in the world and this book is an excellent FIRST STEP for those who have always wanted an INSIDERS VIEW.

Great author, interesting topics, but kind of short given the price,

Jim Marrs is an interesting writer, and I have enjoyed his other books. This one is billed as an introduction to online discussions, and that's exactly what it is. The book is a summary of several conspiracy topics discussed on the internet (in general, and specifically on the Above Top Secret forums). It covers a wide range of topics, and so it reads more like a brief summary of conspiracy theories, rather than an in-depth treatment.
Several reviewers have noted that the chapters are very short and leave you wanting more. That would be fine, but honestly I felt like lots of space was wasted. For example, every chapter is preceeded by a blank blue page, a title page, and then a terse "who, what, where, when" dossier page. Many of these are also preceeded by a blank page with nothing but a small a blue briefcase. Since there are 20 chapters, that's at least 60 to 75 essentially blank pages - in a 284 page book!!! Even within chapters, too much space is taken up by fairly uninformative quotes from anonymous ATS readers in extra-large font. For example: "I for one think the photos are hoaxes, but I will leave it up to the experts to figure that out." -ATS Member Comment (that's a real one, blown up in a box and taking up a chunk of space in the middle of p. 186). I am a fan of Jim Marrs. And this book covers a lot of interesting topics. If you're looking for an introduction and summary of conspiracy discussions on the internet then I bet you'll be happy with this one. If you're looking for more in-depth information beyond what you could find yourself online, then you'll probably be disappointed with some aspects of this book.

another well thought out, excellent book. this is a really easy and informative book. the book is divided up into various chapters on various topics such as 911, roswell, kennedy assassination, etc. all the chapters are independent of each other, so you don't have to read the book cover to cover. you can skip around and read what interests you, which hopefully will be the whole book. at the beginning of each chapter has a "who, what, where, when and why" synapsis which tells you what to look for in it. the chapters are short, 8 pages or so. all and all, another excellent book by jim. reading this will definately broaden your horizons on the matter of conspiracy. enjoy!

An infomercial for a website,

I do like Jim Marrs and his ability to write about fringe topics in a way which does not make fun of the subjects at hand. I do not believe all of the conspiracy theories I have read about, but I do give the authors and theorists a chance to make their cases. This book attempts to give the reader a taste of a website known as Above Top Secret. Mr Marrs has many chapters devoted to a conspiracy cause and writes some comments about such topics. There is no in depth analysis of the topic, but there is a brief summary and a few alleged incidents to help make the case. Chemtrails, UFOs, JFK and other conspiracies pop up in this book with comments by some of the members of ATS. The main problem is the book reads like an infomercial rather than a well researched book of any given subject. The intent of the book is to get people interested in a conspiracy theory, but with so many topics spread so thin the opposite might happen if one is not familiar with it. Those familiar with conspiracy theories and fringe ideas will think the book is a like a first grade reader with no substance. The book itself also feels very cheaply made. That may not be the case, but it does look like it was printed by an amateur. I do expect much better from Jim Marrs, and this book is not recommended.

Informative Book reveals latest News on Conspiracies,

The web site, [...], is the basis for the book of the same name, with a number of issues discussed on the site being explored even further by author Jim Marrs. Those topics include 9/11, oil prices, the Stephenville UFO sighting, road sign codes, a possible Nazi base in Antarctica, spidery drones, the moon landing, the Phoenix lights, chemtrails, Roswell, 2012 and more.
These are all topics that have been written and talked about extensively over the Internet by many conspiracy theorists and others. They are topics that seem to have no way of getting to the truth, thus the many conversations and postings continue. In Above Top Secret, Marrs offers information from a variety of sources but most issues still remain a mystery. I loved reading this book and I learned much that I didn't already know, especially about chemtrails. I noted that "beginning in 1997, observant persons in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe started noticing the long trails in the sky that failed to evaporate like the common condensation trails from normal craft. Chemtrail analysis uncovered aluminum oxide, barium, polymers and traces of pathogens. People directly exposed suffered from such symptoms as asthma, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, joint pain and flu-like symptoms. I found this information important, as I was diagnosed in 1994 with Fibromyalgia, which affects the immune and nervous systems causing among other things, chronic fatigue, joint pain and flu-like symptoms. These symptoms had become progressively worse for a number of years. Also in 1998, I was also diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Due to both of these, I am currently on disability and can no longer work full time. According to Marrs, "one Canadian research foundation concluded that the much-discussed but little-publicized chemtrails might be an attempt to hide a sickening military secret. Professor Donald Scott, president of the Common Cause Medical Research Foundation, claimed that chemtrails are a belated attempt by U.S. military and intelligence chieftains to stop the spread of a debilitating disease first concocted in the early 1980's. According to Scott's account, the military began developing diseases in the 1970's that were infectious but not contagious. In other words, they developed an ailment, which could be spread to enemy troops but not pass into other populations... By manipulating this disease, researchers were able to design a disabling bacterium that disappeared following infection. Troops could be infested yet exhibit no signs of the bacteria when examined by a doctor." Wow! Is that why the majority of doctors, even today, don't believe Fibromyalgia exists and say the symptoms are all in the mind? There is much more information on this topic in the book, including a test of this bacteria in the U.S. [...]

Good Primer on Conspiracy Theory,
By Glenn Gallagher "scholarly bureaucrat" (Sacramento, CA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Above Top Secret: Uncover the Mysteries of the Digital Age (Paperback)
This is the first Jim Marrs book I have read, and I am a bit under-whelmed. Given his sterling reputation among conspiracy theory circles, I was expecting a lot more information and insight.
I think the book works well as an introductory primer into most of the popular conspiracy theories around today, but there is no more than 5 or 6 pages devoted to any single topic. If you are looking for a good overview on the subjects, the book rates 4 stars, but as a stand-alone text, it doesn't really supply the kind of detail necessary to tell even a little bit of the story. If a particular topic interests you, it might be more cost-effective to just buy an entire book on the subject rather than read this book first. It's kind of like reading a short newspaper article when you were expecting a book-length feature.

Solid Survey of Current Topics,

Jim Marrs is a pretty level-headed investigator who is willing to go after hidden truths. In this book, however, he pretty much surveys current popular topics being discussed on the AboveTopSecret.com website. Each chapter is about 7 pages or so, just hitting the highlights of the topic, unlike most of Marrs' books, which dig pretty deep into a single topic. In a way, this is a promotion for the website, where you might find other, or more current info on each topic. However, the author is pretty good at adding in particular truths that he personally has dug up on several of the topics, and that adds noticeably to the value of the book. He has researched some of the topics extensively, and so he is in a good position to give an overview. Being a recent book helps, since some of the topics (e.g. UFO stuff) have much more data available now than in the '90's, for example. In all, solid coverage of quite a few important topics to get you started if you did not know about some of these (and I did not, for example). For those out there who realize that American mainstream media are thoroughly controlled, and that the US government is very secretive about certain topics, this gives an overview of some important issues. I personally prefer to be informed, rather than bamboozled.
