5.0 out of 5 stars An understandable view of Thelema, February 14, 2007

Finally! Wow this book is the clearest, easiest to understand book on Magick I have ever read. Now if only the author would write 12 more.

I am often left scratching my head when reading Crowley or books about Magick. If you dont have the IQ of a rocket scientist or an extensive education in every area of everything this book is for you. Thank you Rodney!

5.0 out of 5 stars lucidity for beginners, November 26, 2008

This review is from: Abrahadabra: Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thelemic Magick (Paperback)
A devoted reader of Thelema, for some 25 odd years - I wish that I had gotten my hands on this little gem, when I first started out studying such esoteric writers as Crowley.

Orpheus has a knack and a talent, to make the complex simple(which is greatly needed for any beginner to Thelemic magick) and do it with excellent wit and simplicity.

Advanced Magicians might like to give this a go, just for the jokes - and to recommend to any students.

As any reader familiar with Crowley or Magick in general, it is not often easy to find a writer to can bring down their learning, to a elementary level that a new reader will find useful and instructive, without being overtly simplified, excessively verbose or just dull. Provided not just with study matter but with exercises and Philosophy of Magick, this books contents, applied diligently by any new person to magick -can give a good feel for what constitutes the basic tenets of Thelemic Magick.

One looks eagerly forward to Orpheus's more advanced writing.

Rodney Orpheus is the singer from The Cassandra Complex and it turns out that he's good at explaining Crowley's magickal system to modern readers. Hard to think of any other recent books which successfully tackle this material. I understand that the O.T.O. (or one them anyway) recommends the book.

If you're looking for a real life, down-to earth, and *enjoyable* book about Thelemic Magick, then "Abrahadabra: Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thelemic Magick" is a "must read"!

Along with Gerald Del Campo's "Thelema without tears", you simply cannot find better a better "launching pad".

It's written for normal people by an extraordinary author. This well written and entertaining book is a fantastic introduction for those who "feel the pull", or simply wish to learn a thing or twenty. Pompous asses need not apply. :-)

Well done!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Introduction to Thelmatic Magic, September 9, 2005

This review is from: Abrahadabra: Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thelemic Magick (Paperback)
This book was given me by a magician who adores Crowley. I must state right away that I do not. However, this book is certainly the best introduction to the magic of Crowley, and his universe, that I have ever read. Crowley himself said that Magic Without Tears was the only book he ever wrote that truly described his art. That being the case, this book, and its excellent exercises, are a guide to the otherwise confusing world of Crowleys Thelmatic magic.

Aside from those interested in Thelmatic magic, this book is a good introduction to formal ceremonial magic in general. I highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in that field.

This review is from: Abrahadabra: Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thelemic Magick (Paperback)
This is arguably the best introduction to Thelemic Magick ever printed. I've been recommending this book for years to anyone interested in learning more about Thelema, so I'm glad to see that it's finally back in print.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Basics of Thelema, August 6, 2005
This review is from: Abrahadabra: Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thelemic Magick (Paperback)
I had been looking for this book for some time as it was on the American O.T.O.'s recommended reading list. Again a more recent book I read that reiterated that I was practicing it right. This is basicly a primer on the basics of Thelemic rituals and living Thelema. Another book that is similar is Gerald del Campo's New Aeon Magick Thelema Without Tears. As legendary and famous as Crowley is, I credit his modern day followers as being just as cool as him, this guy especially he has a life and travels all the time. I would recommend this book to anyone serious about practicing Thelema or anyone looking for a good occult oriented book.

5.0 out of 5 stars extremely helpful to anyone being introduced to Magick, September 27, 2011
This review is from: Abrahadabra: Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thelemic Magick (Paperback)
I gained heavily from this book and highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Magick who doesn't know where to start. I used the spells in this book to deal with particular issues in my life to which those spells were meant to apply, and came out of those situations with great success. Highly recommended.
