4.0 out of 5 stars Lincoln in His Own Words, November 27, 2009
This concise book provides an interesting look at Abraham Lincoln from his speeches, letters, and additional writings. The first example was an 1832 campaign communication as young Lincoln (then age 23) ran unsuccessfully for the Illinois State Legislature (he won the next time, and served several terms). The last was from his final official public appearance three days before the tragedy at Ford's Theatre. In between are over 120 full and partial quotes from speeches, letters, and two innaugural addresses. Many of the writings are well-known and show his greatness, while a couple are less than flattering. Added together they paint an illuminating picture of the man many esteem as the greatest American President. These brief 93 pages also contain several photo's, illustrations, and some biographical paragraphs. But this is primarily a book of Lincoln's words, one that makes a nice companion to full biographies for Lincoln buffs.
