5.0 out of 5 stars Really Worth Reading

Abraham Lincoln's Humorous Stories are a marvelous collection of stories told by and about America's greatest President. His stories were and are genuinely humorous. His stories had a purpose. 1.0 out of 5 stars Abraham Lincoln's Humorous Stories
Truly Lincoln is a man for the ages, but not this book! It is hard to write a truly funny account of his humorous stories, for he used impersonations and other actions to make much of his humor truly funny. This is an amusing account of our beloved president, but not a book to evoke much laughter!

This review is from: Abraham Lincoln's Humorous Stories (Paperback)

Abraham Lincoln's Humorous Stories are a marvelous collection of stories told by and about America's greatest President. His stories were and are genuinely humorous. His stories had a purpose. They were always told to illustrate a point and generally cleared the air of pomposity and pretense. This book is a treasure trove of social and political commentary, most of which is still applicable.

For example, when General Grant was accused of being a drunkard, Lincoln responded: "...you just find out, to oblige me, what brand of whiskey Grant drinks, because I want to send a barrel of it to each one of my generals."

The examples are too numerous to repeat in a short review. The best course would be to read the book. You'll be glad you did.
