Indie Energetic Rock with Harmony,
By "amankaya" (Buenos Aires, Argentina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Abrecaminos (Audio CD)
El Otro Yo shows in this album how much they know about grunge, but also about music "rules". When i hear this CD, i can notice something that is kinda missing in the other albums of this band: harmony. You can dance and jump, you'll learn every note of this album, 'cause it seems to be made for it, to be sung and to jump with its rythm. Both the powerful and delicate Ray (drummer) and the feminine Maria Fernanda (bass player and voice) precition give us energy all along the record, remembering us that grunge doesn't have to be all messed up and twisted. It can be simple, pure and clean, and even rock. It seeems to me that these guys have grown up, and as a first time for this band in the US market, i suggest you at least to try the samples you have here, especially La Musica, Filadelfia and Melodías Vibradoras. Argentine new bands can totally rock!

Arriba 5/10 2. 10.000.000 7/10 3. La Musica 10/10 4. Filadelfia 6/10 5. Aun 4/10 6. No Me Importa Morir 7/10 7. La Ola 7/10 8. Melodias Vibradoras 6/10 9. Arruncha 3/10 10. Microcosmos 4/10 11. El Destino 4/10 12. Manana De Otono 6/10 13. Violet 1/10 14. Ella Se Fue 4/10 15. Melodias Vibradoras (Remix) 5/10

I saw El Otro Yo live in Hollywood Ca in 2001, and it was one of the best shows I ever seen. Without a doubt they're the best indie rock band in South America. "Abrecaminos" two thumbs way up. If you have a chance, You should also check their 1995 album "Mundo". Great Stuff.

Olé Olé Olééé El Otro Yo,

El Otro Yo has become one of my favorite bands since I saw there music video "No Me Importa Morir," while I was in Argentina. They are great as are their CD's. Someo their songs are softer, but the other ones are great. I also want to give props to another Argentine band: Cabezones. If you get a chance, download Cabezones from somewhere, they are more rock but they are also great. Contagiandose, there latest album, which I bought while in Argentina is excellent. It is recorded live and sounds great. It even captures the energy of the fans, which might be where the name comes from "Contagiandose" means "infecting you with." Abrecaminos has some of the same songs as Contagiandose, and they are both great. Melodias Vibradoras is excellent, as well as 10,000,000 and No Me Importa Morir, among all of the rest of the songs. As for the other review, Sexo en el elevador translates to "I don't want an inflatable doll, I want a woman," which makes a little more sense. El Otro Yo is one of the best bands to come out of Argentina and for that matter Latin America. 5 stars without a doubt.

el otro language-o,

I saw El Otro Yo on MTV Spanish playing No Me Importa Morir and I was blown away by how tight, catchy and loud they were. Then I went to the band's web site and heard Sexo en Elevador. Here are some lyrics roughly translated: "I don't want an inflateable wrist, i want a girl." You may not understand the lyrics, them being in Spanish, but who cares when a band is this catchy. They use the soft loud dynamic, but not in a cheap Silverchairish way, more like a big singalong New ...happy way. And if you don't think that Spanish can be punk instead of melodromatic, listen to the Pixies and the Clash, fool.
