This version of the Dewey Decimal Classification fits on your desk and in your budget. Abridged Edition 13 offers the up-to-date features of DDC 21 at a price small libraries can afford. Here's what you get in a single volume: * Major revisions of 350-354 public administration, 370 Education, 570 Life Sciences, 580 Plants, and 590 Animals * New table numbers for countries of the former Soviet Union * Updated terminology and new topics including virtual reality, Internet, rap music and in-line skating * Over 40 pages of additional index terms * Numbering compatible with DDC 21, so libraries can expand easily from the abridged to the full edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars What every library needs, February 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Abridged Dewey Decimal Classification and Relative Index (Abridged Dewey Decimal Classification & Relative Index) (Hardcover)
Even though most catalog entries are now available online, this is a great reference book to have in the media center.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced, January 11, 2010
This review is from: Abridged Dewey Decimal Classification and Relative Index (Abridged Dewey Decimal Classification & Relative Index) (Hardcover)
The 14th edition of the Abridged Dewey Decimal Classification and Relative Index is a textbook for a course I teach and is a most worthwhile purchase for any cataloger, library or library science student. However, it is outrageous that one would charge $999.00 for it when the publisher charges only 1/10 of that for a new copy.

I tried to read it cover-to-cover, but I kept falling asleep.
