5.0 out of 5 stars Great "get-fit" plan!!!!!!
This is a straight-forward plan, not diet, to get you on track. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not needed to succeed on the Abs Diet
Though it has some good twists on the basic Abs diet workout, this book is definitely not needed to be successful on the Abs Diet -- too little new information mixed in with all the basic AD information. Disappointed with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "get-fit" plan!!!!!!, March 15, 2006
This is a straight-forward plan, not diet, to get you on track. I started the plan with great skepticism, and to my surprise, it was easy to follow, had good meal/shake variety, and gave me a feasible work-out plan. The other two books in the series add more variety, more recipes, and more variety for the workouts. Always be your own best judge when starting any fitness/eating plan. I went from an 'obese'(according to Uncle Sam), 170 pounds on my short 5'2" frame, to pretty fit-looking, and healthy-looking 120 pounds. I vary between 120 and 125 depending on my amount of exercise, and what I do/don't eat. Just make a personal commitment to follow the written plan, and you should see satisfying results. I learned the hard way - don't try to deprive yourself of anything you really, really enjoy. Just have some in moderation, faithfully do some sort of physical activity, and be aware of how good, or bad you feel. Always consult your family doctor and keep him/her informed of your plan.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Information, January 18, 2006
By
J.L (L.A., CA.) - See all my reviews
I enjoyed using the exercise programs in 'The Abs Diet Get Fit Stay Fit Plan'. There are more weight training exercises then in the author's first book ' The Abs Diet' so a beginner can learn more exercises for the the arms and legs.
No new abs exercises in this book compared to the first book, but great advice on diet and lifestyle changes. I recommend to anyone just starting out on an exercise program for basic exercises and great advice on eating right.
Also recommend "The Backsmart Fitness Plan"- great core and abs exercises and weight training workouts." And of course "The Abs Diet"- great information on diet and abs exercises.

The exercises are shown as pictures and are described to easily learn. The diet consists of eating 3 meals and 3 snacks a day with a focus on the 12 power foods:
Almonds (nuts)
Beans
Spinach (Greens)
Dairy (Low fat)
Instant Oatmeal
Eggs
Turkey (lean meats)
Peanut Butter (all natural)
Olive oil
Whole grain breads and cereals
Extra-protein (whey) powder
Raspberries and other berries

I have read 50 other diet and nutrition books and this one contains many of the best principles of the zone, ultrametabolism, Super foods RX, and others in one place. This book gets right down to business and does not go into the detail of most other books about why it works, most people will like that. It is filled with testimonials and before and after pictures of the people that this diet was successful for. I highly recommend this book if you are ready to get serious and get healthy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Training Companion of The Great Book that Helped me lost more than 200 lbs in a Healthy Way, August 9, 2006

This is the perfect companion for the original ABS Diet Book: "The Abs Diet: The Six-Week Plan to Flatten Your Stomach and Keep You Lean for Life" Book. It is like the workbook for the first one. There are also "The ABS Diet Eat right Everytime Guide", "The Abs Diet 6-Minute Meals for 6-Pack Abs: More Than 150 Great-Tasting Recipes to Melt Away Fat!" and the DVD. Together the are an excellent and extremely effective collection to eliminate fat from your belly and stay in great shape. Of course you don't need the whole collection, but I thing you will get better results if read the original book first.

This book is dedicated to show you workouts that complement the eating strategies outlined in The Abs Diet Book. This will make your life easier, by providing complete and easy to follow exercises programs that help you burn belly fat.

The book emphasizes in three different types of exercise programs, and each one has a section of the book dedicated to them. The exercises programs developed thorough the book are:

- Exercises for the ABS and Lower Back, in order to strengthen the middle section.
- Exercises to increase the muscular mass and thus the metabolic rate, which helps burn more fat. This section emphasizes on the biggest muscular groups of the body in order to obtain both faster muscle gains and fat losses. The muscle groups emphasized are Chest, Back and Legs.
- Aerobic and Heart Rate based training for speed and fat loss.

You eat more frequently, you eat consciously, and you exercise. It works !!! This plan keeps your metabolism at maximum speed all day long. I eat more than I ever ate before, and I have been able to keep in good shape.

If you follow the authors advices in their different ABS Diet Books you get amazing and most wanted results I was able to lost more than 200 lbs, and also I have been able to keep in shape for more than two years. I am in the best shape of my life thanks to The ABS Diet. I went from size 44 to size 32 pants.

The really important thing for me is not just that you will look great, but that you will feel great and that you will be healthier than ever.

Don't take my word, try the ABS diet and I am sure that you will get the results that you expect. Just stay in the plant until it becomes habit. !!!

Another tools you may want to consider, to complement this book and your strategies for boosting your metabolism, loosing weight, and even more important keeping that weight off are:

- A Body Fat Monitor or Scale. This will help you monitor your progress, to assure that the weight you are loosing is fat (fat lost = increased metabolism) and not muscle, water or bone mass (decreased metabolism).
- "Ultrametabolism: The Simple Plan for Automatic Weight Loss", which is another very practical, readable and insightful book, focused on how to boost your metabolism.
- A Heart Rate Monitor Wrist Watch. This is an excellent tool that will help you monitor and control your Heart Rate in order to keep yourself in a burning fat state (increased metabolism).
- "The Hard Body Guide". Excellent strategies, programs and workouts, aimed to increase your muscle mass.

If you are focus only on your diet, the first two may be worth considering. If you exercise, or want to start doing it right, the last two are for you. If you do both, all the four recommended options can improve your results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Super, March 20, 2007

David's books hit the target straight on. No fuss, no muss, no fancy this or that. The plan is simple. Eat right and start moving. Change your life and lifestyle forever. Not once did I feel I was deprived of any particular foods. I went from 240 to 222 and am still re-shaping. Lots of new muscle and definition (and I'm 55, imagine that!). I like to do sprint triathlons and this book has helped me improve tremendously. Can't recommend this book and the sister books enough. Get it, read it, do it. You'll love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply said, March 15, 2006
I've read several strength training and weight loss books over the past few months to try and break a 6 month plateau (I'm 10 pounds away from my goal). My exercise program began with walking and now I'm running, training for my first marathon. Although this one did not offer me any new information, I do like the simplicity and layout of it. Eat right, stay away from refined carbs and do cardio and strength training. There are several different strength training programs listed and then pictured right after (in the same order of the list) so that you do not have to keep flipping through the book to find the directions for that specific exercise.

While I do agree with a review below that the interval cardio may be too intense for a beginner, it does serve as a reminder to increase the intensity and change it up every now and then to achieve the results you want.

For a true beginner looking for in depth information on diet and exercise, how and where to start, I would start with Bob Greene's Get With the Program.

4.0 out of 5 stars The icing., March 24, 2006
Many of my clients spend hours by the computer, and from there they head home, to the gym or some conference or party. For this reason they've developed pot bellies.I was looking for a book that would help me view this lifestyle issue from a fresh perspective, and I came across this book.
It affirmed my belief in interval training-something that I tailor to my different clients. It also gave me an important message-moderation!, something thatI bless my clients with. Many of them have adapted moderation into their lifestyles, and I thank David for affirming these words in me!you've helped me change lives.
The abdominal exercises are superb,I got inspired to even perform the same exercises with my clients.Great inspiration

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for everyone, September 22, 2008
This book is a comprehensive one-stop-shop for strength exercises that is a great for anyone in any program, beginner or expert. I enjoyed the wide variety in the number and type of exercises to choose from. I will never be bored doing strength training ever again! Color pictures displaying examples of the exercise are easy to follow whether working out at home or at the gym.

I travel a lot for work and found the 2 circuts: one using only body weight and the other using bands to be very helpful to stick with my exercise program even in the hotel.

I have most of the books in the Abs Diet series. Other than the original, I think this is the most worthwhile.

Great book outlining a truly effective health & fitness program. Highly recommended to those who want to improve how they look and feel. Be prepared to make some lifestyle changes though--this isn't a "fad diet".
