Even if you think you've done every abdominal exercise under the sun, you'll learn some new ones here. This 30-minute workout starts with a 4-minute rhythmic warm-up, such as one you'd do for an aerobic dance class. You may wonder why you're warming up your arms and legs for an abdominal workout. Surprise--this workout targets the abs, but it uses the arms and legs to do so. This remarkably creative and varied workout has 2 minutes of interesting standing ab work, then 20 minutes on the mat (which is plenty). Even after you lie down, you're not doing ordinary crunches. Sometimes you work your abs in conjunction with pushups, or from a side-lying position where you kick out one leg and lift your upper body at the same time, crunching your obliques. This is an especially good ab workout for experienced exercisers who think they've done them all. Lots of close-ups of instructor Dawn's perfect abs. --Joan Price

1.0 out of 5 stars This video made me wish Wal-Mart had a video return policy, July 21, 1999
This review is from: Abs of Steel: Target Toning Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I did not like this video. First of all I thought the tape was of poor quality, especially with all of the hype the Buns of Steel video series gets. The excercises themselves were great, I worked ab muscles in ways I'd never thought of before. But the lead lady's irritating voice never quieted (and often her sidekicks) eventually giving me such a headache I couldn't stand to do the video again. If peppy remarks like "Oh, oh, this is great, I love to work those abs" are your kind of thing you may like this video. The "sidekicks" kept complimenting the "leading lady," the women seem so fake, I lost interest in it. I'd try Cindy Crawford's Total Body Workout instead, it works every muscle in your body and its even suitable for beginners.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful - and not easy to do..., June 14, 2000
This review is from: Abs of Steel: Target Toning Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Not a beginners tape. I could only do about half the exercises, and I am by no means overweight. I don't think I would recommend this tape to anyone...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good workout, but the instructor is annoying, May 30, 2000

This review is from: Abs of Steel: Target Toning Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have to agree with one of the previous reviewers that the instructor of this video is annoying. Her New York accent and attitude just did not sit well with this Midwesterner. I would say that the workout was very good, I definitely could feel it in my abs as I was doing it, even though I was gritting my teeth at the annoying banter between instructor and sidekicks. Also, the quality of the video was nowhere near that of other fitness videos such as the The Firm's or Denise Austin. Spend your money elsewhere, wish I would have rented it first.
