This video made me wish Wal-Mart had a video return policy,
This review is from: Abs of Steel: Target Toning Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I did not like this video. First of all I thought the tape was of poor quality, especially with all of the hype the Buns of Steel video series gets. The excercises themselves were great, I worked ab muscles in ways I'd never thought of before. But the lead lady's irritating voice never quieted (and often her sidekicks) eventually giving me such a headache I couldn't stand to do the video again. If peppy remarks like "Oh, oh, this is great, I love to work those abs" are your kind of thing you may like this video. The "sidekicks" kept complimenting the "leading lady," the women seem so fake, I lost interest in it. I'd try Cindy Crawford's Total Body Workout instead, it works every muscle in your body and its even suitable for beginners.

Awful - and not easy to do...,

Not a beginners tape. I could only do about half the exercises, and I am by no means overweight. I don't think I would recommend this tape to anyone...

Good workout, but the instructor is annoying,

I have to agree with one of the previous reviewers that the instructor of this video is annoying. Her New York accent and attitude just did not sit well with this Midwesterner. I would say that the workout was very good, I definitely could feel it in my abs as I was doing it, even though I was gritting my teeth at the annoying banter between instructor and sidekicks. Also, the quality of the video was nowhere near that of other fitness videos such as the The Firm's or Denise Austin. Spend your money elsewhere, wish I would have rented it first.

This workout would have been ok if the girls weren't so ANNOYING!,
This review is from: Abs of Steel: Target Toning Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"..Recommended by leading fitness experts, Abs of Steel is carefully developed to make getting fit fun, effective and safe for all levels--beginner to advanced.." (quote from the back of the Abs of Steel: Target Toning Workout jacket)
It's a shame because this is a hard workout and definitely not for the beginner, even though they claim differently. There was one woman who wouldn't shut up through the whole thing, going, "Work my abs, Dawn!" It had gotten to the point where Dawn, the main instructor, was like, "Okay, Robin!" (read: SHUT UP!) Sad thing was, that wasn't until near the end of the tape! I wish she would have said it a long time ago! It took away from the workout experience for me because I was trying to concentrate on the workout and she kept on talking. The music was ok, reminded me more of Muzak's version of the 80's than fresh, exciting music that really motivates you. Yes, there are pushups and other difficult exercises, and the challenge is to be able to maintain the posture and do it correctly, especially on this tape. Working with it myself, it left me feeling the burn, not necessarily in the abs, but other parts of the body, such as arms and legs. If you are looking for a workout that will definitely leave you feeling the burn, this may be the one for you, if you can tune out the constant chatter. Tell you what, I'll sell you mine!

I was a little disappointed that a lot of the video also focuses on glutes. I really wanted 30 minutes of abs workout.

Great Workout,

This is a great ab workout for any level. You start out with squats then go to the floor for some really unique ab exercises that you can really feel. The quality of the video is fantastic and is the instructor. The music consists of fun fast-beat songs including "Rhythm is Gonna Get You", "Holiday", "Wanna Be Starting Something", "Bad Girls", and the cool down is to "Killing My Softly" so all of these were hit songs. This video gets your heart rate up too.

This is a great tape! The music is awesome and I really got a great workout. The instructor takes you through many different exercises that are so incredible and you can feel them. I got fast results, and the leaders were very encouraging. Unlike the bad review that the other reviewer gave, I enjoyed it. She definetely over exaggerated about the voices. They in no way can give you a headache, and they are not annoying. They are very encouraging and lovely. I would recommend these tapes to anyone, they are excellent.

Not the original,
By A Customer

When I bought this, I was hoping to be getting the old Webb original. The packaging is, I feel, intentionally misleading, banking on the popularity of the original Abs of Steel. The Tamilee Webb version was a bare boned, cheapy, that worked. I hated this video right from the start. I'm sure this workout can work, if you like the instructor(s). I didn't. I'll look at lot closer at the box next time.

I had previously owned this tape but had gotten rid of it. It is a great workout for people of all fitness levels. It is fun and has great music. If you buy this tape, you will not regret it.

Don't be misled about the negative reviews - this is good,

I don't understand why there are negative reviews. This is a great 30 minute workout. I found the instructor pleasant and one of the background exercisers is Michelle Dozois who has her own line of DVDs these days. Too many workouts have crappy music. This one features disco hits from the early 80s (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Gloria Estephan). I don't see anything wrong with that and found it motivating. In addition to ab exercises, you also get some glute work and chest. The time flies and it's totally doable for the intermediate exerciser. Don't be fooled by the bad reviews, this is very good.
