80's thrashers, Mortal Sin, are reformed and released a great cd in 2007. I liked 'Face of Despair enough..some catchy thrash back in the day...but they have updated their sound a little and have some more mid-paced thrashers for us. This gets its five stars based on songwriting. I can't explain it, but the songs just got stuck in my head and I really enjoy this cd.

Just discovered this band thru a Thrash Metal compilation video someone made for YouTube. Heard their guitar tone and decided I liked it. That's one of the first things I listen for when trying to find new bands to listen to/collect....guitar tone. Well, anyway, so once I decided that guitar tone was cool, I searched for more videos for this band. Found a few and decided that I would buy their CDs. Fortunately Amazon has their their two classic and recent album on MOD CD-R format for a reasonably affordable price, so I bought all three. So anyway, this is some really good stuff. Think early Metallica, "Puppets" and "Justice"-era Metallica. A bit of technicallity and melody in there with easily intelligible vocals similar to Hetfield, with a touch of early Chuck Billy. Personally, I wish more thrash singers would sing like this instead of the gruff growls that many use these days.
With this album specifically, you get modern production quality, and like alluded to above you get that early-Metallica/Testament sound of riffage and solos, and of course vocal style. So if you long for some good old school late '80s Bay Area Thrash Metal sound, do yourself a favor and pick up MORTAL SIN's discography.

Excellent delayed follow-up to earlier Mortal Sin CDs, but not as raw. Still a great listen.
