Absence of Moving is filled with sweet sounds,
By "hollis25" (Minneapois, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Absence of Moving (Audio CD)
As all of her recordings are Absence of Moving brings with it great emotion and truth behind it's lyrics. Jill writes songs about real life occurences that have affected us all from time to time. Listening to her tender voice is like listening to an angel. Her vocal range is really brought out in songs like "Kayenta" and "Love would be enough". I can't say enough how much I enjoy this CD. This is the first CD I had heard from Jill and it was just the beginning. After I heard this recording I was introduced to a couple of her prior albums and was delighted to find they were all excellent. The first song, "the truth", just pulls you in and the rest of the CD does not dissapoint. This is the perfect CD to listen to when you are relaxing or if you are in an upbeat mood. It caters to a wide range of emotions which makes it one of my favorite CD's. If you haven't already bought it I strongly recommend you buy it immedidately. Thanks Jill for the sweet sounds.

music that illuminates Joy,
By J. Alberson (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Absence of Moving (Audio CD)
Pop music has taken a lot of heat lately for being weightless and lacking substance. Mind you, look at the prime suspects: assembly-line boy bands and divas-in-training who cater to the pre-teen set rule the radio waves. It is becoming rare to hear anyone on the radio who speaks with a universal voice through universal songs. Enter Jill Cohn--whose latest release, "the absence of Moving" is a collection of music that illuminates the joy and fragility of life. Her voice is amorphous and takes on the personality of each song, whatever that song may require. To provide a couple of examples: she communicates the sultry loneliness of "Louisiana lover" with incredible immediacy and the liberation and strength of "Kayenta" with a pride not seen since Amy Ray's earlier vocals for the Indigo Girls. The arrangements are tasteful and only go as far as the song itself is willing to go, the additional musicians providing abundant depth and color to perfectly frame the picture Jill paints with her words. Jill Cohn deserves the type of exposure that makes an artist a star. Her songs deserve to be hits on the radio. Like all good pop music, these songs don't demand much of the listener and compliment the days of our lives in their crystal clarity. Her voice and music feel timeless, universal, and perfect.

Absence is Absolutely Moving,
By F. Paul Barras (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews

Absence of Moving, Jill Cohn's best work to date, is a pop folk masterpiece. Jill's lovely vocals and incisive lyrics are inspiring. Contrary to the title, I found these compilations to be quite moving indeed. "Happy" and "The Truth," in particular, are standouts. Treat yourself to this wonderful collections of songs from a gifted artist.

The most beautiful music since the 60's,
By Neal Graves (Seattle) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Absence of Moving (Audio CD)
Jill Cohn has a voice reminiscent of the late 60's and early 70's - rich with vibrato and range, she is able to thrill the listener while simultaneously lull with a melancholy air. This is not a pop creation; Cohn has roots that transcends the current superficiality of her contemporaries.

Amazing...ethereal,

I love this CD! Her voice is sultry and enchanting. I especially enjoyed "Kayenta", a touching, uplifting piece. If you have ever escaped a rocky relationship, this song is for you. If you have worn out your Jewel "Pieces of You" CD, I highly recommend Jill Cohn.
