This is the ultimate "must have" item for any collector or person hoping to add a little shelf bling to their existing collection. The oversized, hard cover slip case looks beautiful and quite striking. The pages themselves are constructed exceptionally well and the oversized glossy pages really make the art come to life. Coupled with a great story from the living legend Grant Morrison, this is every Batman fans dream.

Next thing on the DC to do list is a Grant Morrison/Batman Omnibus beginning with his start on Batman and Son and going all the way to end of the current Batman INC run.

I love the story telling in this series. Dick Grayson is a different kind of Batman. He never wanted to become Batman and the series shows some of his struggles with filling the Mantle of the Bat. Grant Morrison creates an amazing story that brings the character of Dick Grayson into a whole new role. He doesn't try to just make him Bruce Wayne's Batman. (spoiler) I think one of my favorite moments was when Batman(grayson) is caught smiling as he is fighting. This moment and everything with Tim Drake and Damian was gold. I really enjoyed this book and I think everyone who is reading Batman needs to visit this adventure.

I absolutely love this edition of these stories! It's absolutely massive, great quality, incredibly well written, with fantastic art (obviously Frank Quitely is the best, but Frazer Irving really stands out and Chris Burnham makes his Batman debut in this book, doing a great job). However, this story is part of a much larger Bat-epic. I am slightly disappointed that the Morrison stories in Time and the Batman and The Return of Bruce Wayne aren't collected here too, considering how important they are for the immediate plotlines, but I can understand why this collection chose to focus on the adventures of Dick and Damian, not Bruce, whose absence was the point of this book for over a year.

Don't buy this book unless you've already read:

Batman the Black Glove Deluxe Edition
Batman R.I.P.
Final Crisis

And preferably already own Time and the Batman and The Return of Bruce Wayne so you can read them during this book.

This book also isn't the end of this massive story, which continues in Batman Incorporated and the New 52 version of Batman Incorporated.

There was an "interruption" in Bruce Wayne being the Batman, he was believed to be dead, and Dick Grayson, the former Boy Wonder turned into Nightwing, took over as Batman. Bruce Wayne's recently discovered son by Talia Al Ghul; Damian; appeared on his doorstep. Damian was 10 years old, raised by the League of Assassins, and had tried to kill Dick out of a jealous rage. Now joined in grief, Damian agrees to continue to train as Robin under Dick's guidance, but there's plenty of tension between these two Caped Crusaders. Grant Morrison uses this premise to deliver the most dynamic version of Robin The Boy Wonder in over 50 years! Jason Todd? Tim Drake? Poseurs! Why Robin has persisted in Batman mythology is that Robin was always "in the moment" when action struck, while Batman was always trying to "strike terror": they were a perfect team, particularly in the 1940s stories by Bill Finger. Damian Wayne has a bad attitude and keeps putting Dick down, while Dick is still traumatized that Bruce is gone and visibly reluctant to take up his mantle. It's a tough situation for both of them, but with a little help from Alfred, a little nudge from Commissioner Gordon, and a lot of villains doing nasty things to innocent people, this brand new Dynamic Duo soon become a remarkable team! It is actually a letdown when Bruce returns at the end of this edition because the dangerous chemistry between Dick and Damian is lost on the page. I consider these stories to be the highlight of Grant Morrison's long run on Batman, a surprisingly empathic take on Dick Grayson and an increasingly engaged depiction of Damian, before everything returns to the status quo. Every Batman fan should have this Absolute edition in their collection!

Dick and Damian as Batman and Robin shouldn't work so well, but it does!! Who can hate Dick Grayson in any form, especially as a guy who didn't really want to take on the mantle and is struggling to be his own kind of Batman? I certainly can't! The dynamic between Dick and Damian is perfect, they are exceptional as partners. In this story you not only see Dick and Damian kicking butt, but also using their detective skills and taking on an unlikely ally. This story is perfect is so many ways, Grant Morrison is very hit or miss with me, and this is definitely a hit!
Aside from the amazing story, the artwork is striking and beautiful, especially on oversized glossy pages. This is a worthwhile purchase for any Bat fan!

The problem with this book in terms of context, it's placed after:
*Batman and Son,
*The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul,
*The Black Glove,
*Final Crisis
*Batman RIP,
*Time and The Batman.

I know you can purchase the Absolute edition of Final Crisis, but still, there's a lot of back story missing and it's really odd that DC comics didn't simply go in order and released those stories first (as of October 2014) as Absolute editions. Sure, you can go and buy those books separately but as an Absolute Edition buyer, I simply want to buy everything in that specific format not Trades.

At least the follow up of this story, Absolute Batman Incorporated, seem to be more complete.

Overall, the book has some incredible art, it's thick, good paper quality and it also packs in some decent extra content. But I wouldn't buy it as a stand alone read because that's silly, buying absolute editions is about buying them for the collective and decorative purpose.
