4.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity is the key
This is a well written book and for the non technical user a must. The author keeps the wording simple and puts the reader at ease at the start of each topic with his simple and positive approach to the topic. The book is structured in a easy to read manner. The tips and use of light hearted humour is well done and does not detract from the overall objective of the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Book is extremely dated and not useful if using digital camera
I received this book as a gift because I'm trying to learn more about photography. I'm sending it back to Amazon. I'm somewhat shocked Amazon is even selling a book this dated. I just flipped through the book but it was enough for me to tell that it wasn't useful.

This book was probably a great informational resource when most people used film cameras, but...

A solid no nonsense guide to basic photography. This book will take you from zero to making great pictures in no time flat. I would recommend it to all beginning photographers--I only wish that it had been around when I was starting out.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Taking Great Photos (Paperback)
I received this book as a gift because I'm trying to learn more about photography. I'm sending it back to Amazon. I'm somewhat shocked Amazon is even selling a book this dated. I just flipped through the book but it was enough for me to tell that it wasn't useful.

This book was probably a great informational resource when most people used film cameras, but with the popularity of digital cameras, a lot of the information in this book is useless. A lot of the techniques and problems discussed are solved by using a digital camera. The only people I know that still use film cameras are either REALLY old or are die hard photographers that wouldn't need the book to begine with.

Also, when it says "Absolute Beginners" it means you've never picked up a camera before. It's extremely elementary in it's content. And even if you were buying it for a young person learning about photography, they are probably using a digital camera so it's still useless.

There's some great beginner books on the market for beginning photographers, but this one is not one of them.

This book provides a great jumping off place that explains the basics in an easy to read fashion, providing information that can be used to immediately improve one's photography.

The author's love for photography is apparent and encouraging. This alleviates the frustration one tends to get from reading photography books, making this book a good reference source.

5.0 out of 5 stars Photography made easy, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Taking Great Photos (Paperback)
From what I have read so far this book makes understanding photography easy. There isn't a ton of jargon to figure out and it is easy to understand and follow what the author is saying. It gets to the point.
