Absolute Blackest Night is one of the best materials from DC Comics. Not only the story, simply astonishing, but the material as well: from de gorgeus slipcase to the art on both cover and dustjacket, this is one of a kind!

Seeing the work of Ivan Reis and Doug Mahnke on the Absolute format is a treat to our eyes. Big and bold scenes and splash pages makes you dive into the story.

Congratulations to DC! This was my first Absolute edition, and now I'm only waiting for a dropping price on Sinestro Corps War! And congratulations to Amazon. My book came pristine!

Most of what there is to say about this edition of the Blackest Night is covered in the other reviews. However there is one very important piece of information that I have not seen and that is the fact that this Absolute Edition includes the Prologue to the Blackest Night: Issue # 43. This was a key reason for me not buying this edition at first, the description does not say it is included even though it is incredibly important in setting up the story arc. Thankfully is actually in included so every piece that really matters is in this book. Yes I know that issue 49 is not here, but that issue is kind of a tangent from the main ordeal and while I with John Stewart was more prominent then he is (that issue was all about him and Xanshi) I feel like it is not a huge lose that is was not included and would have made things a bit more confusing overall for people who are not aware of his entire background. All in all though this is probably the best Absolute Edition DC has done yet and it is easily one of the greatest comic arcs in recent years. This will be an arc that people recommend 50 years from now.

Wow. By sheer coincidence, I had been busy reading a CD-ROM of golden age DC comics before this arrived. Fun stuff, but obviously for children - especially after the accursed comics code. Anything considered the slightest bit controversial or upsetting was not allowed, and happy endings were enforced. Jeez, Blackest Night is sure a long way from there. This R-rated masterpiece contains some of the most truly horrific, mind-warping visuals ever in a mainstream comic. It's right up there with the best of EC, Warren and Heavy Metal, only updated for current levels of quality. And thankfully, DC made the effort to keep this Absolute edition up to their usual standards of excellence. This is why I still read comics 4 decades later.

I'll keep this short and simple: Absolute Blackest Night is incredible. Right from the start, Blackest Night is like no other DC comic you've ever read. The family history of William "Black" Hand, the heroes rising from their eternal unrest, the different lanterns on the color spectrum... this book has so many facets, so many stories within stories, that there are easily a hundred varying reasons to buy this book in this format.

Awesome, really good story that involves a very large range of characters from the dc universe, many characters returning turning after being gone for some time
