5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for breaking in new figures skates!
I ordered the Bunga ankle sleeve by recommendation from a figure skating forum. This product is a must-have for breaking in stiff, abrasive, new figure skates. They have given new life to my poor tattered ankles! I only wish I'd had these from my first day on the ice with new skates.

Found out way too late that there is a Bunga Skater's Kit (2pcs x 2.5" gel discs, 2pcs x 5" ankle sleeves and 1pc x aluminum style BungaBox) s for about $43-$45, while this ONE ankle sleeve I purchased from Trader Jay trough Amazon cost me with shipping almost $20. 5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for breaking in new figures skates!, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Absolute Bunga Pads 5" Ankle Sleeve (Misc.)
I ordered the Bunga ankle sleeve by recommendation from a figure skating forum. This product is a must-have for breaking in stiff, abrasive, new figure skates. They have given new life to my poor tattered ankles! I only wish I'd had these from my first day on the ice with new skates.

The elastic sleeve is lined with a smooth stretchy layer of gel that completely covers the ankle bones and other tender spots where new figure skates tend to rub the skin raw. It guards against ankle bone abrasion, lace bite, and miscellaneous blisters.

The sleeves get a little sweaty with prolonged use, but stay in place well under a thin pair of socks/nylons/tights. They're hand washable, and a must-have for anyone wishing to spare themselves the discomfort of breaking in new skates.

Trader Jay advertise "Bunga PadS"- making us believe there are 2 not one pad, but just so you know, you are getting just one- SCAM

This is an awesome product for anyone who figure skates. No more blisters or chaffing from your boots. My daughter would pad herself up with foam, gel disk, you name it! Now all she does is slip these on, put on the boots and she's ready for two hours of lessons and practice!

5.0 out of 5 stars helps for hockey, June 26, 2009

Great for your ankles if the padding in your hockey skates is a bit thin. Allows for pain-free, aggressive skating which will help you play better and focus on the game and not your hurting ankles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooray for Bunga Pads, March 4, 2010

I bought this item because my figure skating instructor recommended it for a problem I was having with my new pair of skates. It did not completely solve my problem but that was not the fault of the Bunga pad. They are an unusual item. They relieved the problem enough that I could use the skates until I could mold the boot to my foot. I still use it as it is very comfortable. The Bunga pad with its jel cushion is a terrific pad. The pad is not thick, but the jel gives it a lot a cushioning effect for the thickness. I would recommend this pad for foot or ankle cushioning. Well worth the cost.

I wish I had discovered these sooner! I started skating a couple of months ago and was struggling with upper side of the skates boot pushing on the tendon in the ankle. These pads protect the whole ankle area by providing a thin (but sufficient) layer of gel. It is basically a tube that is padded with gel on the inside. This has allowed my sore ankles to heal while continuing skating. It is a must for anyone struggling with new skates (mine are Jackson figure skates and notorious for being hard to break in). The pads are a bit expensive but worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my ankle, November 29, 2010

I play hockey a couple of times a week and for some reason my left ankle was getting rubbed really raw by the top of my skate and/or the bottom of my shin pad. I used to bleed, swell and scab up following every skate. Just one time playing with the Bunga Pad 5" ankle sleeve in place and I saw a huge, huge difference. Just a bit of residual rawness that I think is probably left over from the past. Hardly any pain (used to feel it for a day or two after skating) and no bleeding/swelling. I highly recommend this product for anyone dealing with high ankle abrasion related to aggressive skating or breaking in skate boots.

4.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy two! Cut in half!, December 30, 2011

This bunga pad works really well! It goes through the wash just fine and does a perfect job of keeping my feet blister-less!
I got one ankle sleeve for christmas last year, and I have used it ever since. One of the biggest problems that I have found is that why buy two? for $18.00 each, they are pretty expensive. All of the skaters at my rink just cut one in half, so that is what I did. My feet are fine with just one half each. I think that Bunga should package two ankle sleeves in one package and each sleeve 2.5 inches long so then you don't have to cut one in half.

overall, a wonderful product!

My skates were totally rubbing against my skin and causing abrasions, but after I wore this ankle sleeve, it took away all the pain and scratching. I won't skate without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just get this product, January 2, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Absolute Bunga Pads 5" Ankle Sleeve (Misc.)
I have skinny bony ankles and wearing my new cheap skates was destroying my right shin for some reason. I think the build quality on the skate was defective in a way that the ankle section pinched inward and was tearing at my shin no matter how I tied it. I tried three layers of socks and even using shoe insole cushioning to protect my shin, but nothing worked. My shin was so bad I had a half inch high ring of swelling where the skate was rubbing. I couldn't go two minutes on the ice without crippling pain. As soon as I put on the Bunga Pad, my shin felt absolutely nothing. Now I can skate completely pain free for hours. This thing is amazing, don't even second guess yourself if you're considering buying it. JUST DO IT. Buy this product now and you will not regret it one bit.
