One of the best JLA origin stories EVER, December 6, 2010
This review is from: Absolute Dc (Hardcover)
This book is amazing. Let's talk about the comic first:
The story is told from multiple points of view and does an incredible job by setting the origin of the justice league in its original historical context, but exploring the possible political implications of such, in the rapidly changing world of the 1960s. The characters in the book are rarely fleshed out this vividly and realistically. If you are unfamiliar with The Losers (crappy movie aside) Challengers of the Unknown, the Blackhawks, or even Martian Manhunter, you will remember AND love them by the time you are through with this book.
Now on to the Absolute edition:
Bigger is always better when it comes to comic art. The 13" pages are a joy and pleasure to flip through. The art pops like never before. The colors are incredible. The slipcase has a beautiful design and the hardcover itself recreates the covers of the collected forms with style. The pages are thick and sturdy and the built-in bookmark is handy. I love absolute editions. They are cherished keepsakes. Yes they are pricey, but that also makes them special. In a disposeable world, works like this stand out in a collection and hold a special place in the world of collected graphic art as well as printed media. Your bookshelf will thank you.
