Editorial Reviews

Recorded on two nights at First Avenue in Minneapolis and the Double Door in Chicago, this is the quintessential Electric Six live set, featuring selections from each of their eight studio albums. This release is a painstakingly accurate representation of an E6 show, packaged, duplicated, and mass-produced for the first time. It is the band s first and only live record, available this October only on Metropolis Records.

One listen to this album got me pregnant, and I'm a man! If Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and Handel got together and made a live album, that album would be a station wagon to this album's Ferarri.
I have been able to see these fine gentlemen perform live and now every night can be an E6 concert in my own living room!
So buy this album, invite over 27 friends, charge them 4.50 for a Miller Lite, and you can recreate an E6 concert at your house too!

"...You win by default."

Its October! Time for another Electric Six CD to come out!

This time, after 8 studio albums in 8 years, e6 have put out a live album. Probably a good choice, since last year's "Heartbeats and Brainwaves" signified (to me anyway) a growing dissatisfaction with themselves. Not only did that album veer strongly into electronic territory, it was peppered with lyrics like "We write the same songs over and over" giving me the impression that 8 albums of new material in 8 years was stretching Dick Valentine a bit thin. He shouldn't feel like we NEED a new album every single year (we as fans do love it, don't get me wrong) but if he's planning on keeping that kind of schedule up, hopefully the creative recharge time will make him feel better about the band and where its headed.

But enough about the last album, how about THIS album???

Its live, and its awesome. I've had the distinct pleasure of seeing Electric Six during the "Kill" tour in a dive bar in Milwaukee, and it was without a doubt the single best concert I've ever gone to. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but its true. The band had great energy, was super funny, and the songs were tight, rocking, and FUN! Electric Six is above all a FUN band and they communicate this even better live than on record.

While live albums are never truly the same as being there, I feel that a good live album should make you WANT to be at the show it was taken from. This album succeeds wildly at that. Its extremely well recorded, the warmth, energy and fun comes through loud and clear, and the song choice is excellent. In Milwaukee, we never got "Dance Epidemic" despite our frequent cries to hear it.

This live album also captures Dick Valentine's stage persona rather well.

This album is for any lover of Electric Six. Full of the best songs from their lineup, this album makes it feel like Electric Six can actually play live, and thus makes it the bestest album ever. Just merely playing it allowed my dog to do backflips and my nonexistent baby boy to walk and talk.

Electric Six has released some of the finest music over the past ten years. This C.D. Captures some of thier songs and shows how excellent they sound live.
