Spastic. That one word may sum up the experience of listening to the almost amazingly hyper Japanese band Polysics. Mix a gallon of potent energy drinks with ripsaw distorted guitar, jackhammer pogo stick rhythms, frenetic half sung half screamed vocals and indescribable electronic treatments, then pour on a layer of mostly Japanese lyrics scattered with English words. Something resembling the Polysics will bubble up from that crackling static electric brew. No one would describe them as relaxing. They affectively simulate a mega caffeine overdose or a near death adrenaline rush. The polymorphic nature of their songs heightens the effect. Some flash from head thrashing rhythms to eerie synthesizer laden interludes, then back again to explosively jarring bursts. Music sounding right out of classic video games often punctuates their beguiling arrangements, almost as if the song had lost a life while gaming only to stand right up and face the world yet again. Until the end of the song, of course. Some may find the effect overwhelming.

A short pithy instrumental called simply "P!" launches the album off video game style. Images of Mario bashing his head into blocks and smooshing mushrooms may waft from consciousness. This erupts Krakato style into "Shout Aloud!" a phrase that seems like a laughable understatement when juxtaposed with the wailing music that suddenly flows. Buzzy robotic vocals start it off, followed by triple time hammered aorta bursting drums periodically interrupted by a wall of synth filled with beguiling female vocals. A downright fantastic amalgam of styles and moods. "Young OH! OH!
