5.0 out of 5 stars What Everyone Is Missing
Nowadays, if a station plays Four Preps music, it might be "26 Miles (Santa Catalina)", "Big Man", or even "Down By the Station." The two oldies stations in my area, in fact, DO play them. One, now off the air, even used to play "More Money For You And Me". Despite a boast of "The largest record collection in Florida", a request for "More Money" is met by, "We don't have...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Totally disappointed in this. Listened to it once and put it back on the shelf. Much of it was live and felt like a protest concert.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Everyone Is Missing, February 1, 2006
This review is from: Absolutely the Best (Audio CD)
Nowadays, if a station plays Four Preps music, it might be "26 Miles (Santa Catalina)", "Big Man", or even "Down By the Station." The two oldies stations in my area, in fact, DO play them. One, now off the air, even used to play "More Money For You And Me". Despite a boast of "The largest record collection in Florida", a request for "More Money" is met by, "We don't have it." That is why anyone who loves The Four Preps and 4-part harmony MUST get this CD.
"More Money" is joined by two more medleys, "The Big Draft" and "great Songs". All three feature nearly dead-on impressions of top vocal groups of the 50s and 60s, with spoof versions of those groups' hits. The Preps first hit, "Dreamy Eyes", is also included. Two more songs pay a kind of tribute to the Beatles and The Four Seasons. "A Letter To The Beatles" tweaks the Liverpool lads (who were supposedly upset over it) and the sometimes insane Beatlemania of the 60s. And "Let's Call It A Day, Girl" is a tribute to Frankie Valli's group in a way that anyone who has heard Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" would recognize.
Overall, three of the songs on the CD have goten decent airplay in recent years, but all fourteen deserve much better treatment. Until some radio station gets wise, all I can say is definitely get this CD, because "Absolutely the Best" is not just a title, it is "Absolutely" the truth. Buying the CD will be the only way to enjoy these Four Preps gems.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Four Preps - Timeless harmonies from an innocent age!, September 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Absolutely the Best (Audio CD)
The Four Preps signified the fun and innocence of 1950s music and were among the greatest of the vocal quartets of that era. Their vocal harmonies drifting from your radio on those sultry summer evenings, while lying in a hammock under a moonlit sky. . . we should all have had such an experience!. Listening to them again, and again, never becomes tiresome or boring.
