Book Description

February 1, 1996
The brightest, sexiest romance yet from the New York Times Bestselling author of "Grand Passion" and "Trust Me". Unconventional Molly Abberwick, trustee of her late father's scientific foundation, is mad enough to fire her new consultant, Dr. Harry Trevelyan. A brilliant expert on new inventions, the handsome Harry irritates Molly to no end with his preposterous insistence that they have an affair-- and that it could be planned, predicted, and run like a science project. But just when Molly is ready to let him have a piece of her mind-- not her heart-- she discovers that the eminent Dr. Trevelyan is not what he seems. First, there is his family, a long line of carnival folk who run the Smoke & Mirrors Amusement Company. Then there are the paranormal premonitions which bring Harry to Molly's side when she most needs him. And when her troubles escalate into violence and a mysterious stalker threatens her life, Molly turns to Harry's sixth sense for help, and discovers she needs Harry not just for a week, or for an hour, but forever in love. A sparkling new love story, Krentz works her magic once more for an "Absolutely, Positively" wonderful new romance! The irresistible new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of "Grand Passion" and "Trust Me".

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Unfortunately for Krentz's characters, Molly Abberwick and Harry Trevelyan, narrator Rachel York lacks the vocal expression necessary to overcome the inadequate abridgment of this recording of the author's latest romantic novel. Molly, trustee of a scientific foundation, frustrates the quirky romantic overtures of her top consultant, Harry. But not for long. The abridgment focuses narrowly on Molly and Harry's romance, so the personality quirks and additional characters that make Krentz's stories (e.g., Grand Passion, Audio Reviews, LJ 4/1/94) so endearing have been lopped off. Additionally, there are numerous plot gaps wherein minor players influence critical plot turns with little or no explanation. York has a tendency to overdramatize both the narration and the dialog. The central, unvarnished story is simply not interesting enough to hold the listener's attention. Large public libraries may consider purchasing to meet demand; others should pass.?Jodi L. From Booklist

Krentz has "absolutely, positively" produced another best-seller for her adoring readers to devour. In typical Krentz fashion, she pairs Molly Abberwick, trustee of a foundation for inventors, with Harry Trevelyan, a scientist and consultant for the foundation. Amid the doings of the usual quirky family members and other secondary characters, Molly becomes the target of a vicious prankster and Harry rushes to discover the identity of her tormentor. As Molly and Harry work to balance their business and personal relationships, family pressures threaten to destroy their chance for happiness. Krentz's flair for creating strong interpersonal relationships among her characters strengthens a novel with a tried (and tired) plot. Avid readers of Krentz will begin to foretell the ending (capture of the bad guy, resolution of family feud, etc.) within a few chapters, but the novel is sure to be in high demand in public libraries, so prepare accordingly. 5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely, Positively one of JAK's Best!!, October 23, 2002
I LOVE these characters! This is JAK at her best. She just does not get any better. Molly Abberwick owns a tea and spice shop, enjoying her life in Seattle until her father dies and leaves her in charge of his Foundation to help budding inventors. She is now facing a problem. The problem is Dr. Harry Stratton Trevelyn, who is the 'debunker' of fake inventions. He vets the applicants before Molly passes out the money grants. Molly gets very enthusiastic about all sorts of inventions, only to have Harry shoot them down time after time. So far, he has not approved one single invention.
Harry has his own problems. He is caught between the two sides of his family - the very rich socialite Stratton side and his carnival side Trevelyns. Harry is very rich, so the carnival family is always asking him for this and that, with both sides keeping a constant tug of war on Harry. This emotional battlefield has caused Harry to be very self contained, maybe too controlled. The one place his control is let loose is in the bedroom. Also around to cause him headaches is his ex-fiancé, a psychiatrist who thinks Harry might be slightly insane and is trying to warn Molly from to not get involved with him. The final mix to Harry's problem is his is psychic and does not want to admit it. Having been raised in a carnival part-time, he has seen this used as a game, so he does not like to let people know about it.

As Molly slowly gets involved with Harry and the whole cast of his family, someone starts to play dangerous pranks on her, and it is quickly evident someone wants her dead.

The characters are so warm, so loving and with that JAK razzle-dazzle that she has polished to a beautiful diamond finished.

Lets hope she soon gets back to this level of writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lively Romance! Great Read!, January 2, 1999
By A Customer
This is one of my favourite Krentz comtemporary romances - the other favourite is Deep Waters. Molly and Harry are unique characters, different (she the enthusiastic businesswoman and he the cautious scholar)but sharing a powerful passion for each other. As always in Krentz's books, the hero needs the heroine to help him face his personal demons. In this case, the demons are Harry's psychic ability, his guilt over his parents' murder and his warring families.

Harry, in the meantime, is helping Molly to find the source of some nasty pranks being played on her as well as an attempt on her life. It wasn't difficult to guess "whodunit", but the mystery serves its purpose in bringing these two strong characters together.

Funny in parts and always interesting, Absolutely Positively strengthened my admiration for Krentz's writing.
