I have 2 kaleidoscopia books. This one is better than #5. Lots of crazy shapes, patterns, paths to follow. Going outside the lines won't be as much of an issue for little kids because these lines are thicker than say, a Dover book. There are a lot of options how to color this stuff and some of it is definitely intricate. Pages are single sided and the paper is quality. 26 pages to color.

I have bought a number of these books. I really enjoy them. This book has one picture per page (nothing on the back) which is nice because I use Sharpies for coloring and they bleed through. The paperweight is nice as well. Thicker than most books I have.
These abstract books are really nice. They allow for so much variation of color and light. If you have a bit of creativity you will really enjoy them. So, while the price is higher... I really am pleased with them. I will purchase more.

Once again, a wonderful addition to the series. It's amazing how each book in the series can improve from the last. This one has several new designs that are very intricate (like the one on the front cover). There are a few designs that are more simple, but still interesting to color. There are also a few designs that are similar to the previous books in the series, but they're not exactly the same. Different enough to still provide a unique coloring experience. For those that have never purchased any of the Abstract Adventure books: This book has many different types of designs, both simple and intricate. The quality of the paper is excellent. The designs are only printed on one side of each page, so there are no designs that will be ruined due to bleed-through by high quality inks. Overall: Out of the first four books of this series, #4 is my personal favorite. If you plan on only purchasing one book in this series, I recommend this one.

This is a great book as it teaches many art concepts (such as color wheel, patterns, complimentary colors contrast, etc.) while giving you a chance to be creative and have fun. You can make unlimited final products using these pages, your imagination and the art tips included on the back of this book. I think this is a great activity for school age to adult.

I'm torn in how to rate this one, because the paper is very white & clean, one sided designs for copying clean or using & framing, and the designs use a very thickly banded black with no thin outlines anywhere. The designs don't appear to be repeated, so there a good number to use. However, the designs themselves are NOT intricate in any way, they are so large they compare to a children's coloring book--actually worse since few children's coloring books use > 1/4" thick black outlines! If you are looking for complex designs to color or use, this is NOT a good choice. The design shown on the cover is the most complex & isn't shown as the design actually looks, the thick banded outlines aren't shown for instance. Abstract Adventure IV would be good for children, or anyone with dexterity or vision issues making more intricate designs challenging for them; those like me who want to color as adults & need complex designs to truly get focused in and relax, I recommend looking for something a LOT more detailed, such as Power Mandalas or Kaleidoscope designs. So 4 stars because the product quality is great, one sided pages with clean white fine quality paper, the designs are boldly printed, I just believe this should not be marketed as an adult coloring book & more inside pages need to be shown so buyers will know what the product delivers, before buying & being disappointed.

I purchased several Kendally Bohn books at the same time. Please read my other reviews. The appeal to me was the covers of the books. They are bold and brighly colored. But one of the deciding factors for me was the author's providing us with a glossary and explaining the use of the color wheel to i8nd contrasting colors.
I am only giving these books four starts because I have not colored any of the pages yet. Hope to edit review after coloring. I like the idea that this book also has some optical illusions and I am anxious to try the technigues Bohn recommentds for approaching the designs. |
