Book Description

September 12, 2005
A back lane, prayer beads or even monks in the street are not subjects that will normally attract one's attention. But through the lens of award-winning photographer Christopher Palm, even mundane and ordinary items and scenes are captured in a new light that makes them appear fresh and exciting. In the tradition of master printmakers, this collection of black and white images catches the essence of what is often taken for granted and stimulates readers to appreciate their environment and how they live

The collection of stunning black and white photographs featured in Abstractions on the Road in Asia is a visual celebration of daily sights that many people take for granted. In his journeys through Asia, photographer Christopher Palm has captured for posterity, vivid yet ethereal images of the land, its people and their way of life.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Christopher Palm is most celebrated for his black and white fine art photographic images self-described as "ethnographic landscape photography". His signature works are richly saturated full spectrum of black and white images adhering to the print philosophy of Ansel Adam's Zone System. They tend to be aesthetically delightful and slightly dreamlike diverging from a sense of photographic realism. As a master printer, Palm's recent works have employed carbon pigment quadtone technology. In this photographic process multiple intensities of black and grey ink are applied to an archival paper using inkjet technology. The resulting images have a wider tonal spectrum than silver halide photography and are extremely archival even in humid environments.

Christopher Palm has been published in various regional magazines in Asia. He won a Kodak young photographer’s award in 1991 and the Epson global imaging award in 2004.
