Greg Tardy has done is again. I'd have to say that Greg is by far one of the best and most underrated sax players on the scene today. The energy that he pours into the music is so natural after listening to his music you'll never need another herbal supplement for the rest of your life. On this date Greg has an unbelievable group behind him consisting of one of the most incredible and underrated drummers around, Woody Williams. (Those of you not familiar with Woddy's playing need to be, he's one of the most original and flavorful drummers of his generation..... he's like gumbo....kidding) The rest of the group consists of two of my favorites piano and bass players around, George Colligan and Sean Conley. Alto newcomer Miguel Zennon also plays on the explosive opening track. ...Anyway, if you're a fan of great compositions, exploding energy and groove, Gorgeous Ballads, and exquisite group interaction...PICK THIS BABY UP!!!

Often in jazz, we discover players by their appearence as sidemen, I got this because I liked Gregg Tardy's Playing on an Andrew Hill disc "Beautiful Day". Both of which are on the independent jazz label Palmetto records. There is so much great young jazz talent coming up, it would be hard to keep track of it all, and I'm sure many artists never get their proper hearing despite being immensely gifted. I suppose it's hard for any sax player nowadays to escape the strong influences of the great ones which came before. That's ok, Gregg Tardy needs no apologies as he has crafted a superb jazz album here- and you will hear a certain feeling and vitality which takes it into the category of a modern classic. Like the other reviewer says, pick this one up.
