3.0 out of 5 stars An album full of repeats, April 25, 2010
By
This review is from: From Abuse to Apostasy (Audio CD)
Having been a fan of Amduscia for many years, I was really looking forward to this album when it came out. However, after a few listens, I came learn that Amduscia pretty much used up all their good ideas on Melodies For the Devil and the Dead or Alive EP, and this album was largely a sour repeat of those tracks. What we're left with is pretty much an hour of the same song on repeat - not much diversity in their sound (as usual) but even so, it just sounds like I've heard these songs before. Whereas Melodies For the Devil succeeded with complex, layered melodies (a surprising use of counterpoint in EBM music... huh?) and unique drum patterns, bouncy synths, crazy basslines, this album just sounded like agro-psytrance with an angry voice spouting the usual (horrible) lyrics. That's not to say that From Abuse to Apostasy never succeeds; "Absolution" and "Placeres Negros" are highlights of this otherwise bland album. Fortunately, Madness in Abyss seems to put them a bit more in line with their previous releases, though I'd still recommend you save your money and buy Melodies for the Devil and Dead or Alive and skip their newer stuff.
