This TITANIC kit is far and away the most detailed kit in this scale ever produced... It out-classes the old Minicraft 1/350 kit in at least one important area: the superstructure sides are molded entirely in white plastic in the area which is intended to be painted white, making the model far easier to paint without obliterating detail. The fact that the superstructure sides are separate pieces also eliminates the alignment problems associated with the old Minicraft kit, such as the aft C-Deck square windows and the two well-deck areas. If one decides to cut out additional windows, particularly in the aft area of starboard B-Deck (location of Cafe Parisien) where the window pattern is incorrectly a "mirror image" of the port side (A'La Carte Restaurant) where it is correct, this is easy to do because the superstructure side is a separate section. If one wishes to model the TITANIC's sister-ships OLYMPIC or BRITANNIC in terms of window placement, having the sides as separate also makes this option far easier. The detail is crisp, without flash (excess plastic) and without sink-marks or mold lines. The masts and spars are made flexible enough not to break when handling, and the rigging plan is easy to follow. A "purist" might balk at the fact that two of the collapsible lifeboats are missing from the kit, but these can easily be made from scratchbuild plastic stock... The high level of accuracy and detail elsewhere on the kit make the two missing boats a "non-issue". There are a number of brass photo-etch aftermarket products made just for this kit in 1/400-scale, which can be used to super-detail this model. Not enough good things can be said about this TITANIC kit... Pete Hodges

First, let me state that this is an excellent model! My 10 year old is very in to the Titanic and asked if he could order a model with his money. I said sure, let him pick the model, and placed the order for him. About the only "research" I did was check the number of stars it received. Unfortunately for my son (and me!) is that this is the first model either of us have attempted. This model is very accurate, and a great model for model enthusiasts. While we have generally had fun making the model, I must say that I know I am in way over my head!!! Our finished product won't look perfect at all, and I'm sure experienced modelers would cringe when they see it, but we are having fun struggling through it! My only recommendation for other dads out there is to start with a simpler model first and work your way up to this one!

This model in my mind is much better than its counter model the 1: 350 by Minicraft. The molding quality is very nice and you get a decent model right out of the box. Some brass parts from Tom's Model Works or Gold Medal Models makes this a museum quality model. The directions are very easy to understand and the parts fit beautifully. However, the colors in which the decks and funnels are molded in are very inaccurate. I was able to paint them without much difficulty. There are a few historical inaccuracies as well. The well deck walls are not lined up quite right and they don't go under the forecastle and poop decks like they did on the real ship. It is missing two lifeboats. However, a little scratch building will fix both problems. It is a very nice size and very easy to apply brass parts. A wonderful model all around.
