This is a 1/288 scale Academy plastic model kit. Although the Space Shuttle can travel faster and further that any other aircraft ever built, it must depend on other means of transportation to get from one side of the USA to another. Because it must use large external booster rockets for it to take off, it can only be used for orbital/space flights. The Shuttle is the size of a medium jet airliner. NASA obtained a specially built Boeing 747 airliner from American Airlines, capable of carrying the Shuttle in a special cradle on top of 747's fuselage. This kit contains the Shuttle and the 747 configured for flight. Both aircraft contain fully engraved panel lines, landing gear and engine detail, a beautiful decal sheet, paint details and a display stand.

1:288 Scale. While the Space Shuttle can travel faster and farther than any other aircraft yet flying, thanks to the huge external boosters that push it, it is not capable of flight outside of a space voyage. To provide for "local" hops. NASA obtained a giant Boeing 747 from American Airlines, and altered it to carry the shuttle in a special cradle mounted to the fuselage. The 747 was originally used to test the aerodynamic stability of the shuttle but is now often used to transport the shuttle from one location to the next. This kit comes molded in silver, white, and black, includes both the 747 and the Space Shuttle. The exterior surface details of the two craft include seams, bolt heads, and a variety of hatch and door outlines. All of the necessary cradle equipment for attaching the shuttle to the 747 is included. Complete landing gear and engine assemblies for the 747 are included. A clear brown plastic display base is included. One Decal Sheet with Markings for One 747 and Four Shuttles. NASA 747 with Shuttle Atlantis, NASA 747 with Shuttle Columbia, NASA 747 with Shuttle Discovery and NASA 747 with Shuttle Endeavour. Skill level 2
