5.0 out of 5 stars And the Winner is.............YOU !..., April 27, 2002

At last!.....i've waited many years for a CD release of Eddie Fisher's Academy Award Winners album. Now I can put away my battered old LP. This is a collection of all the Best Song winners, from 1934 to 1954 (this album was recorded in 1955). But!..not only do you get some great renditions from Eddie, between each song, you also get a running commentary about the songs and the movies from which they came. It's a unique recording and a MUST HAVE for anyone interested in movie music.
Don't miss this one !
By the way, when the album is over, and you're wondering what won in 1955...it was "Love is a Many Splendored Thing".

5.0 out of 5 stars "among my favorite Fisher albums ~ Sings Academy Award Winning Songs", August 8, 2005
This review is from: Sings Academy Award Winning Songs / Sings Irving Berlin Favorites (Audio CD)
The young crooner Eddie Fisher was a protégé of the famous comedian Eddie Cantor (If You Knew Susie Like I Know Susie)...during the '50s Mr. Fisher was RCA Victor's top-selling pop vocalist along with Perry Como and Elvis Presley...Eddie's signature song was "Any Time" which always opened his 15 minute TV Show called "Coke Time" (1953) and was universally the spokesman for the soft drink

Collectables Records and RCA Victor presents "EDDIE FISHER SINGS ACADEMY AWARD WINNING SONGS" (1955)..."EDDIE FISHER SING IRVING BERLIN FAVORITES" (1954)..."BROADWAY CLASSICS (bonus tracks)" (1954)...featuring the son of Russian Jewish immigrants who were so proud of their boy Mr. Eddie Fisher.

Many of Oscar Winners from the very beginning 1934 to1954 when this album "Academy Award Winning Songs" was released...with beautiful orchestration by Alex Stordahl and with his chorus.

THE CONTINENTAL (1934) (from the "Gay Divorcee")
LULLABY OF BROADWAY (1935) (from "Gold Diggers of 1935")
THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT (1936) (from "Swing Time")
SWEET LEILANI (1937) (from Waikiki Wedding)
THANKS FOR THE MEMORY (1938) (from "Big Broadcast of 1938)
OVER THE RAINBOW (1939) (from "The Wizard of Oz")
WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR (1940) (from "Pinocchio")
THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS (1941) (from "Lady Be Good")
WHITE CHRISTMAS (1942) (from "Holiday Inn")
YOU'LL NEVER KNOW (1943) (from "Hello, Frisco, Hello")
SWINGING ON A STAR (1944) (from "Going My Way")
IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SPRING (1945) (from "State Fair")
ON THE ATCHISON, TOPEKA & SANTA FE (1946) (from "The Harvey Girls")
ZIP-A-DEE-DOO-DAH (1947) (from "Song of the South")
BUTTONS AND BOWS (1948) (from "The Paleface")
BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE (1949) (from "Neptune's Daughter")
MONA LISA (1950) (from "Captain Carey, U.S.A.")
IN THE COOL, COOL, COOL OF THE EVENING (1951) (from "Here Comes the Groom")
HIGH NOON (Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darlin') (1952) (from "High Noon")
SECRET LOVE (1953) (from "Calamity Jane")
THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN (1954) (from "Three Coins in the Fountain")

Second part of the album is "Eddie Fisher Sings Irving Berlin" with sparkling arrangements by Hugo Winterhalter and His 65 piece orchestra...Hugo and Eddie worked together many times...listed in alphabetical order:

ALL BY MYSELF
CHEEK TO CHEEK
HOW ABOUT ME?
HOW DEEP IS THE OCEAN
REMEMBER
THEY SAY IT'S WONDERFUL (from "Annie Get Your Gun")
WHEN I LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND
WITH YOU

Lastly we have "Broadway Classics" with four songs inclusive and Hugo Winterhalter:

ALONE TOO LONG (from "By The Beautiful Seas")
AND THIS IS MY BELOVED (from "Kistmet")
LAZY AFTERNOON (from "The Golden Apple")
LOST IN LOVELINESS (from "The Girl in Pink Tights")

Eddie Fisher who could belt out a song with the best of them...not bad for a kid born on August 10, 1928 from Philadelphia, PA...finally a collection of tunes from my favorite singer when I was growing up in the midwest...his talent was enormous and the songs where right from the heart...good to see this release, hope to see more of the same...gotta love it!

Total Time: 74:00 on 34 Tracks ~ Collectables Records 2832 ~ (4/16/2002)

5.0 out of 5 stars Eddie has always been a winner to me!, July 14, 2002

This CD of Academy Award Winning songs by Eddie Fisher is a great addition to any Fisher fan's collection. I have all of the recently re-released CD's since I have been a fan of his forever.
To me he had the best voice of any singer, bar none from the 1950's. He had a natural, beautiful voice.I still think fondly of the many times I had seen him perform in person over the last several years. His voice has deepened but is still great. Any fan of Eddie's or fan of good music would love this and any of his CD's.
