I had never heard of this song or this band but after listening to a couple songs by The Band, I was hooked! I have read of the OTHER 'Trail of Tears' and I love Cajun food, but that's the extent of my knowledge. Wow. This song made me feel as if I were right there with them, drifting down the Mississippi, breaking down, misunderstood, mistreated...resilient, resourceful...a wonderful people. I am from Kentucky and rarely want to leave for anywhere. Fields of Bluegrass, horses, hills...yet I find myself longing to visit these precious people in all the places they can be found. Alabama, Mississippi, and especially Louisanna!
