2.0 out of 5 stars Monks -hmmmm, November 26, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acama-Tibetan Temple Bells (Audio CD)
I ordered this CD because it stated that the bells were played by the Buddhist Monks of Maitri Vihar Monastery and I was interested to see how they approached these instruments. However, despite there being plenty of pictures of Tibetan monks (none of whom are holding or playing Tibetan Bells - let alone Tibetan Singing Bowls), nowhere on the CD or the booklet does it state who is playing the bowls. I somewhat doubt that it is Tibetan monks. Upon receipt of the CD I searched the net and found that ACAMA was more probably the name of an artist - and not the title for the CD, as I had wrongly deduced. Whoever is playing the bowls isn't very good and neither are some of their bowls. It's mediocre - but what concerns me more is whether it is intentionally misleading. There are better albums of music on these wonderful instruments. One perennial favourite is GOLDEN BOWLS by Karma Moffett and Danny Becher's earlier (not later)cassettes - these artists have a spiritual connection and sensitivity to the sounds. Tibetan Bells 3 & 4 by Wolff & Hennings are good CDs that are more compositionally rewarding than this one and feature a wider range of techniques. If I am wrong and this music is made by bonafide Tibetan Buddhist monks then I wish them well with their meditations and suggest that after a further ten to twenty years of sound meditations that they record a follow-up CD - and then I'll try it again. If it is intentionally misleading, then own up and don't give the Buddhist monks a bad name.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brennan's review on the temple bells., October 28, 1999

I found this record vary different then all the other records from tibet. I like this one the most because its vary relaxing, calming and it takes you on this type of spiritual voyage.I dont think the music is really good for the car or to just listen to it like you would with a regular CD. I think its ment for meditation, tai chi, yoga... Enyway, to finish, I give this record 5 stars because it was really interesting to listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Transcendent music, April 1, 2008
This review is from: Tibetan Temple Bells (Audio CD)
This is probably the most extraordinary piece of sacred music I have ever heard, and I have heard a LOT from all around the world.

In essence this is very pure, esoteric music. There are no synthesisers or attempts to bring these sounds 'up to date' or to westernise them. This is not New Agefied Buddhist sound. Instead what you get is what the title says, Temple Bell Music which resonates just beyond the level of the subconscious. This music will take your mind to a profound meditative region. Some notes are so subtly vibrational that you can barely hear them, but you know you are being effected beyond thought and feeling.

The only way I can describe this CD is like ripples on the deepest level of the Unconscious... Very profound and highly recommended...
