She was never "mainstream",
By
This review is from: Acapella (MP3 Download)
This is a great but not perfect song. Kelis was never mainstream and her accidental success ("Milkshake")brought her great popularity. Her music has always flirted with electronic and dance elements and it's great to see her acknowledge those on this single. I look forward to the new album.

Before You My Whole Life Was Acapella,
This review is from: Acapella (MP3 Download)
When I first heard this song, I was just blown away with this song I found it an excellent choice for Kelis's new album Flesh Tones. I recommend listening to the song and watching the video. Both are really good.

Kelis' Move Apart,
By Michael Kerner "Michael Kerner" (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Acapella (MP3 Download)
It has been a few years since Kelis has made anthing new, and a lot of things changed in her life. From the breakup of her marriage with rapper Nas, to the music industry placing focus on wannabes like Rihanna and Miley Cyrus. But, she honestly has made attempts of her own to make it back into the mainstream with Acapella. Her new single isn't really the saucy and soulful appeal she was able to capture and ignite the way she showed to her fans. Instead, she chose to being in a more electronica showcase to her music. Unfortunately, she chose to let the music slide. I felt the song was even weaker than her prior tracks like Milkshake and thr provocative Blindfold Me. Hopefully, when she does come back to the mainstream, she can really ignite a fire that is more than just Acapella.
