NOT Leather...but well made.
on June 15, 2012
This case is not leather, which is WHY it costs 1/3 of the price of the genuine leather covers.
I bought this case in orange in January and I am still using it and like it. I would give it 5 stars, but the "Leather" statement is false. It should get even fewer stars for being blatantly misleading, but it's a good, well-made case for the price.
It looks like leather with a casual glance or at a distance. It does not *feel* like leather or look like leather upon close examination. The inside is a gray sueded fabric. I had a pair of shoes made out of sueded fabric once and I liked them quite a bit.
Go ahead and buy this if it does not matter you if the smell of leather is absent or if the pebbling is extremely uniform. With real leather, there are flaws where the cow had the occasional insect bite that scarred the skin of the animal. And you can scratch leather permanently if you scrape hard with your fingernail. That doesn't happen with this case, since it's not leather.
So if you just want a nice case at a good price, I highly recommend it. After 6 months, mine has protected my Kindle from falls, oils from hands, and scratches. It's lightweight and the color is a classy muted orange. THe elastic bands hole the Kindle snugly in place, and the stitching is flawless.
