Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Windows 98 ranks as the most popular network client on PC networks, and many candidates for Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification choose to take Microsoft's Windows 98 exam (70-098) to satisfy their client operating system (OS) requirement. Of the books available to help candidates study for this exam, Windows 98 Accelerated MCSE Study Guide is among the very best.

Author Patrick Neal, an MCSE himself, opens the book by explaining how Windows 98 works, broadly speaking, by providing an overview of its architecture. Neal then gets into the mechanics of connecting a Windows 98 machine to a LAN. He also tells how to install the operating system, both locally and across a network. Subsequently, Neal shows how to get the most out of hard disks and how to resolve hardware conflicts. He also includes excellent information on performance optimization and on integrating Windows 98 computers into different kinds of networks--including remote ones.

Carefully organized around Microsoft's published objectives for the Windows 98 exam, you'll find this book's coverage to be thorough. Better, it's extremely easy to read and oriented toward memorization, with lots of bulleted lists of options and facts that will help you when it comes time to mark A, B, C, or D. --David Wall

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a good book if you just want to learn about computers.., July 16, 1999

I'm not taking the MCSE, but the book is really good and helped me understand just what's going on out there in cyberspace. I'm a computer dummy, but I understand a lot of what's here. And I'm going to read it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a DISAPPOINTMENT, June 25, 1999
This review is from: Accelerated MCSE Study Guide Windows 98 (Paperback)
I bought this book and was extremely disappointed. It missed several key points that I saw on the exam. I wouldn't have passed by using this book alone despite what the description says. It doesn't even meet all of the exam guidlines that Microsoft states. Maybe that's why it isn't Microsoft Approved. Dont' waste your time with this one, find one that is Microsoft Approved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, January 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Accelerated MCSE Study Guide Windows 98 (Paperback)
I liked reading about this book. I just retired and wanted to know more about what was on my computer. I started with Windows 98, which I used this book to understand. It was very helpful, easy to read, and in most cases, understandable. I consider that a big plus since I don't know a thing about computers.
