If you want to connect a MacBook Retina to a Sieki 4K Monitor, you'll need this part. I had tried several ways of connecting (other adapters, software, you name it) and only managed to get a 15Hz refresh rate - which is pretty annoying in active use. Connecting this adapter gives you an immediate option of 4K @ 30Hz, and works perfectly right out of the box. Can't be happier.

I wish I knew that I needed to have an active adapter and not a passive adapter to use 3 monitors before this. Hope my lesson helps others. This Accell [B086B-008B-2] works perfectly.

Bought this to hook a 4K TV (SE39UY04) to my mac. Passive adapters won't give full 3840x2160x30Hz due to driver limitations, but this adapter will look like a display-port connection to the OS, and will reach full HDMI 1.4 speeds under OSX.

Some others have had to use SwitchResX to get 4k 30Hz with this -- wasn't necessary with my set, so seems to be TV dependent.

I used this to connect my Macbook pro to connect to a Sieki 4K monitor. Worked Perfectly.

Every once in a while, you come across a product that just works. This is one of them.

This thing works great. The only way I found to get high-res output from my Macs to the Seiki 4K TV over HDMI 1.4.

Bought this to connect my Microsoft Surface Pro 2 computer to my Seiki 50" Ultra HD 4K 2160p TV that I use as a monitor. Works fantastically! Microsoft's similar product specifically made for the Surface Pro 2 failed miserably and I was worried that this one couldn't handle it either but instead came through without a hitch. A must have to connect your 4K display to your compatible notebook or tablet.

Since the mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI active adapter was out of stock and I needed to get my 4k monitor running on a Mac Mini 5.2, I decided to use the full-size adapter with a separate mini DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort adapter in series. This works as advertised and allows full HDMI 1.4 bandwidth (3840x2160@30Hz).

I bought a 4K Seiki UHD TV from Sears for my Laptop (an older 17" MacBook Pro running Mavericks) not knowing if I could get full resolution with that setup. Plugged in this adapter and like magic, the 55 inch display became a great 4K monitor for that laptop. This is great for reviewing MRI scans, CT scans, and X-rays with my patients. Highly recommended.

I must say I am very disappointed. I have a 2012 mac mini and I had decided to upgrade from a 720p TV to 4K UHD. In preparation for that move I had ordered this mini dp to HDMI adapter to be able to work at 4K resolution. 2012 mac mini is on the official list of the devices from Apple that support both video and audio through mini dp port. The specs for this adapter also promise full audio support. My 4K TV is still on its way so I plugged it into a mini dp port and decided to try it out with my current TV to see how it works. Imagine my dismay when I found out that no audio is passed through. Video is passed just fine but no sound. Plug the same HDMI cable back into HDMI port and I have sound. Re-plug it back into this adapter off of mini dp port and no sound. TV shows in the list of output sound devices only when connected via HDMI port. I am going to poke around some more but it looks like this adapter simply can't pass audio, at least, on 2012 mac mini. I have a very high quality HDMI cable so it's not the cable, especially since the same cable outputs sound just fine via HDMI port. It has to be the adapter Or Apple lied that an audio pass-through is supported on 2012 mac mini :-). But I doubt it. I don't have any other adapters to try, anyway. Very disappointed indeed.

UPDATE: I've tried it with 2012 Retina MacBook Pro, and with a 4K TV. No audio comes through, only video. So, beware. This item is going back.

We desperately needed this adapter for our current project. No other cable or adapter worked, but with this one we got a Macbook Pro (mid 2011) and a 2012 Mac Mini running with 3840x2160px on our Blaupunkt 4k-TV (pretty similar to the Seiki) in Mavericks 10.9.3.
Kudos to Amazon for the unbelievably fast delivery. I ordered it on a Wednesday afternoon and got the package on Friday noon (from USA to Germany!).
By the way, there seems to be absolutely no difference between the B086B-008B and the B086B-008B-2, apart from the fact that the first one comes in a retail package and the -2 in a polybag. So it doesn't really matter which one you buy, they are exactly the same.
