Practical, praiseworthy Powramid

This replaced a bulky 10-outlet power strip used as a charging station for my family's numerous devices, and significantly reduced clutter. It is apparently designed to be used on a desk or counter top, instead of being hidden away on the floor and behind the furniture. The unit is compact, yet provides plenty of space to plug in six AC adapters, which tend to obstruct adjacent outlets on linear power strips. The outlets are tight; this is probably intentional, to prevent heavy adapters from dislodging due to the angled orientation of the outlets. The lighted on/off switch on the top of the unit is protected by a clear plastic dome, which requires some effort to remove (in my opinion, a tight cover is preferable to one that could fall off easily). The USB charger is surge-protected, and the 5V, 2.1 amp output is shared between the two ports.

The Best Power Strip actually accepts 6 adapters.

It is Better than any other power Strip since it has 6 recepticles and holds 6 power adapters. In a regular power strip you can only plug in 2 or 3. They cover up the other plug recepticles. This one is circular so they do not interfere with each other. Also, there are USB recepticles to charge other stuff.

The design of this power pyramid is great. I use it for the big chunky black plugs. It is stable and doesn't fall over like all the power strips I have tried in the past. The plugs are easy to insert and remove. The USB is a nice addition. I already have 2 other Powramids that do not have the USB plug. I will continue to buy more of these surge protector - hope they never stop making them.

There's really not too much you can say in a review about a power strip. This one offers a unique design, with plenty of separation between the outlets to accommodate those bulky power bricks, but without the overall package being large and bulky. If you have to have a power strip on your desk, it might as well be decorative to look at. (The only disadvantage in this design might be that, with your plugs going in all around the perimeter, the cords will also go every which way rather than being all bundled together in a line. This is not a problem for me since I am using the Powramid as a bedside power strip for my laptop and tablet and such, so it and any cords going to it are mostly pushed behind the bed out of sight anyway.)

Another nice touch is the illuminated power button. It's visible but not obnoxiously bright. It also has a (removable, optional) clear plastic cover, so you can still see the on/off status of the switch, but avoid accidentally hitting the power button and turning off your systems. (Very useful for desktop use with a computer, especially if you have cats like mine that like to walk on every key and button and switch in sight.)

Finally, you get not one but TWO high-current (2.1A) USB charge ports. These have plenty of juice to charge my iPad2 at full speed. When you have a USB device connected, the Powramid does make a soft but audible electrical hum. You'd need a very quiet environment to even notice it, but it is there.

For my particular bedroom environment, I would have preferred the white unit, but the white ones were backordered three weeks at the time of my purchase, so I just got the black one. Still, it is nice that they offer a choice.

Great Product, Very Handy!

I love this little addition to my desk. I'm a very tech savvy person. I have two bookshelf speakers about 14" tall a piece, a stereo receiver, a wireless internet router, cable modem, Sprint Airave GPS coordinator box, Wii game console , and a lamp, all either black or silver, all on my desk. It's obviously a rather large desk. With everything being either black or silver, (the lamp being the only silver object), I couldn't bear having a white desktop surge protector on there. Also, I'm a college student, so when I take my laptop to school, which I forgot to mention is on my desk also, I have to take the charger with me, as I'm there for about 10 hours. I hate having to get on my hands and knees every day to plug and unplug my laptop charger to and from a surge protector on the floor. This product solves that and more. It also provides for additional outlets for new products I'm testing, phone chargers, and Lithium Ion battery chargers for my flashlights, (I'm also a security guard).

The ONLY hiccup I found with this is that the black version is about 4 or 5 dollars more than the white. I can't logically make any sense of how the color of the plastic would make a difference in price.

Either way, it's a great product. I didn't buy mine from amazon, but now I'm about to purchase on from here as a gift for someone who's been looking for one.

After Comcast installed my TV, CD and DVD players, I thought I was all set. Then, one of the outlets on my power strip failed and I discovered that the installer has clipped together each of the power cords so short that I could not access any of the cords or the power strip because everything was impossible to pull from behind the entertainment center. I guess this was his way of dealing with the "messy" look of all the power cords strewn around and about the equipment and the floor. The Accell Powramid design made it possible to organize and label each power cord and plug them into the six available outlets in an orderly and easily available way. The cords or all but invisible from the viewer's side of the equipment and can be pulled out easily when necessary. Its easy to get at the reset (On/Off) switch and the lighted signals are visible without being obtrusive. Finally, it was a snap to switch from my old outlet strip to the Accell. I am very satisfied.!
