Product Description

Style: Retail Packaging

The UltraAV DisplayPort to VGA cable adapter enables the connection of your DisplayPort supported computer to a VGA (HD-15) supported monitor or other VGA display. It supports VGA analog resolutions of up to 1920x1200 (WUXGA), 60Hz and is simple to setup and easy to use. Connect the DisplayPort (male) end of the connector to your computer and plug your existing VGA cable from the monitor into the VGA (female) adapter. Setup is complete, no software required. The circuitry built into the DisplayPort to VGA cable adapter seamlessly converts the DisplayPort’s video signal into a crystal clear VGA video signal. The latching DisplayPort connector keeps the adapter securely in-place. The DisplayPort to VGA cable adapter requires no external power. It is designed to use the power provided through the DisplayPort connection. The power-saving standby mode is initiated through the DisplayPort source or based on the monitor’s status, which is automatically detected by the adapter. Standby mode reduces power consumption when the adapter is not in use and is ideal for energy conservation. Features: Connect a DisplayPort Enabled Computer to a VGA (HD-15) Monitor, TV or Projector. Integrated 10-bit, 162 MHz Video DAC Delivers Clear VGA Output. Automatic Sink Detection and Standby Mode for Energy Conservation. Features a locking DisplayPort cable for a secure connection. Features are subject to the capabilities of the computer and graphics solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Product October 6, 2010
By Steve T

I purchased this for a 3 monitor setup using an ATI Radeon 5770. I have 2 monitors hooked to each
DVI port (there's 2 on a 5770) and 1 to a display port via this adapter. The monitors I am using are
3 ACER X233H's running at their native res of 1920 by 1080. Works fine. Can't tell which monitor is
hooked up to the DVI and which is using the display port. Good product. Works as advertised.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the ticket for Eyefinity July 28, 2010
By Lolwuut
Style Name:Retail Packaging|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you're looking for something to work with eyefinity but are confused by the massive amounts of completely WRONG information out there, buy this item and stop worrying about it, then tell your friends. Here's a quote from me discussing this displayport adapter on overclock dot net.

Will I be able to tell the difference between this VGA adapter and a DVI one?

No. Speaking from experience, because I own one. I also can easily spot the difference between native dvi and native VGA, but displayport to VGA is absolutely indecipherable from DVI in my experience.

edit: Also, if you are using an adapter to allow a 3rd monitor to be connected, $30 DP > DVI connectors aren't going to cut it. It HAS to be an active adapter and as i'm sure you know those run for about $100. VGA adapters also have to be active but there are differences:

Converting from DP to Analog (VGA) is much easier to process than DP to any other digital interface, such as DVI or HDMI. This means that DP to VGA adapters can be self powered, and very cheap. Mine is this one and it works flawlessly.

If there was any way that I could prove my position on image quality I would love to, but it has to be perceived. All I can say is rest assured I am completely anal about pixels bleeding due to low signal quality, etc. and after running a VGA connected LCD for years I am very familiar with the exact symptoms that are factored in to what is considered a "low quality" VGA connection. I'm not sure what kind of magic DP conjures up, but the difference between my VGA connection and the identical screen right next to it using dvi is completely indistinguishable.

5.0 out of 5 stars ATI Eyefinity June 27, 2010
Style Name:Retail Packaging|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this to be able to hook up my third 24 in monitor with Eyefinity (RAdeon HD 5850) and it worked. I didnt have to buy the "active" display port from Dell (100$). Very happy

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT USB for those who seek it June 13, 2012
Style Name:Retail Packaging|Amazon Verified Purchase
I dunno how or why this has creeped into a search for USB components, and the picture is massively misleading. The way the wire is angled makes it look very much like a USB adapter. And if your not paying attention like I was you will buy this, and then get it in the mail a few days later then *face palm*, sad but true.

After getting them I came back to the listing convinced they must have sent me the wrong thing. But reading more throughly through the description, it specifies that its not usb but in sooo many words so to speak. Kinda leads ya on.. But like I said paying better attention then going on to read the reviews I seen that I wasn't the only one who made the same exact mistake.

I am sure on the flip side this product is perfect for what it was designed for, but the shere fact that its misleading, funny thing is they still make money off the deal as I essentially am paying a restock fee (i think), then had to cover whatever they didn't after the limit to ship it back to them. For me bought 2 of them had only 8 dollars to work with towards shipping it back.. bah, just agrivated I wasted 50 or so dollars, to then waste the gas to go to UPS and ship it back, to now have to sit and wait for my refund.. even more frustrated by the fact that in order to get what I wanted originally the cheapest thing was 59$ for just one.. so having to pay double for what I thought otherwise I got a sweet deal on pisses me off to.. ah well, what ya gonna do. enough crying from me.

This adapter worked immediately and seems to provide a great picture (as someone else in the comments suggested it would). When I first plugged in the monitor the picture had fuzziness and lines, but after a few seconds they went away. I think the LCD panel auto adjusted, but it took a few seconds. Now, I can't tell the difference between the lcd panel plugged into the adapter via VGA and my other monitors plugged in through DVI.

I'm using it with a Dell M6600 and range of Dell monitors with resolutions from 1280x1024 up to 1920x1200.

I had 2 monitors connected to my ATI Radeon HD 5770 via DVI ports. I plugged this adapter into the card's DisplayPort, then plugged a 3rd monitor in via VGA. It detected immediately (Windows 7 64-bit) and showed my desktop. Anyone wanting to run 3 monitors with ATI Eyefinity (as long as 1 monitor uses VGA connection) should buy this now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works flawlessly October 11, 2010

This adapter works pretty well. Just plug it into your computer Display Port, plug a VGA cable to the VGA Output Port of it and conect it to an old projector/monitor...and that's it, no setup/special configurations required, as simple as this.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just works! March 6, 2012
Style Name:Retail Packaging|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was jonesing for a second monitor on my work computer, which has but one VGA connection, and thought this was at least worth a shot. I admit I too thought this was a USB connector, but when it arrived I read the package carefully before opening it, read the Wikipedia entry on Displayport (which has the symbol for Displayport as well as a clear illustration of the port itself) then looked at the back of my computer. Gloryoski, there was a Displayport connection! I plugged it in, tested a monitor on it, and it worked perfectly. So there you go. If you're thinking you bought the wrong component, check your computer first. And that leaves a USB connector free for yet another peripheral. Best $30 I have spent in a long time.

Note: if you're accustomed to USB connectors, remember you need to pinch the bottom of this connector (so to speak) to release it.
