This is a truly fun read, whether your kids are not yet ready for college, in the looking and application process, or this is already well behind you. We can see a little of each of us in these hilarious blow-by-blow accounts of getting your kid into "the" college. Sit back and enjoy!

I was hoping for something like "Little League Confidential" for the college admissions scene, which may have been setting myself up for disappointment. This was a generally pleasant but forgettable read, with only a few chuckles and no laugh out loud moments. Basically an extended version of the "college application nightmare" column that every feature columnist for every newspaper in America churns out at one time or another. There are much better things to spend $10.95 on -- many of them that last longer than the scant hour it takes to read this very short book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Funny But Helpful Book, April 6, 2005
This review is from: Accept My Kid, Please!: A Dad's Descent into College Application Hell (Paperback)
This gem of a book came into my life at the right time -- just as I was hauling my high-school son on his first visits to college campuses. This book made me laugh while keeping the college search experience in perspective.

In addition to being a fun read, this book also is filled with nuggets of good advice for parents of high school students. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Necessity!, April 2, 2005
This review is from: Accept My Kid, Please!: A Dad's Descent into College Application Hell (Paperback)
Would that Hank Herman's wisdom was available to all who have suffered through the college application nightmare with their teenagers!

Herman's practical, funny, and absolutely scary scenario of the trial-by-fire that college application has become is a must for every parent of an applicant. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loud out loud funny, terrifyingly accurate, August 29, 2010
Flew through this book laughing the entire way. Perfectly captures the absurdities of the college application process while following the author's own experience as caring parent who'll stop at almost nothing to get his child into the best schools. Great for any parent that's gone through the application process and for any college kid open to appreciating the pains their parents go through for them. It's a fast, relentlessly entertaining read that's funny, scary, and even educational.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny book that helps keep things in perspective, June 28, 2005
This review is from: Accept My Kid, Please!: A Dad's Descent into College Application Hell (Paperback)
What a great read! Really funny and engaging. I saw a lot of people I know in Hank Herman's description of his hard work in gaining college admission. I've enjoyed sending it to friends who are going through it so they can keep a healthy perspective on their... passions and aspirations.

A fun read for the parent of a high school junior or senior. The kids will enjoy this as well. Humorous insight into the college application process from an involved parent's perspective. Helps lighten up this overly stressful right of passage.

experiences on the road to higher education! I've given it to

5.0 out of 5 stars Humor is a Wonderful Thing!, June 25, 2005
This review is from: Accept My Kid, Please!: A Dad's Descent into College Application Hell (Paperback)
Hank Herman provides all parents with high-school age children a much needed perspective on the college application process. I never laughed so hard while alone, reading a book! I purchased copies for everyone I know with teen-aged children and I was hailed as a hero. My 11th grader read it and loved it, as well. I passed copies on to the college counselors who loved every word (and recognized every anecdote). This is a MUST READ for anyone remotely connected to the application process -- students, parents, teachers, counselors -- and anyone else who wants a good laugh and some good insights into the mind of a typical teenage boy and the neurotic parents (of his peers, of course) during those final years of high school.

5.0 out of 5 stars He stole my kid..., August 10, 2007

or he was in the backseat of my car as we made the rounds...hilarious! Every parent should read this before beginning the "rounds". It makes you realize that as awful as you may think your journey is, a VERY large group of parents are making the same trip...we just can't talk about it without sobbing.
Parents take heart...after nightmare trips similar to Mr. Herman's, my son (or maybe he IS really Hank Herman's) selected the school that was exactly right for him.
We have gifted all friends who have college-bound children with this book. It is wise and witty and full of gems that parents can use during their tours. Take it on the trip with you, it'll help to remind you to keep it all in perspective.
Highly recommended.
