I love this book series! They are all wonderfully simple and straight to the point. The focus on 1 social vaule or character skill for the child to learn. In the back of the book there are questions to ask about each page to get the child involved and really thinking about the story. It also includes game ideas to practice the new skill, or an art type project to reinforce the new skill. This book in particular talks about accepting every person even though they are different in size, shape, color, etc. It focuses on that you can still get along and respect the other person even if they don't look like you.

I have all the books from the Learning to Get Along series. They are wonderfully illustrated and written. These are great social story books to help kids. I use them for my son and for the kids I work with at school. My son (5) will just sit and read this books on his own. I absolutely recommend Cheri J Meiners books. (I even have a link on my website for her books)

At the end of every book are ideas and games to play about the specific topic. What a great idea!!!

I bought this book and others in the series because I have an 8 year old struggling in school (and out) socially. He likes them and he likes to read them to his siblings.
It gives us opportunities to talk about situations (even when he is not in trouble).

My 5-yr old grandson loves this whole series of books. The pictures are good and the lessons are very "every day life" for him.

Great resource book for teaching character -building. I teach 4s & 5s and teaching social development/problem-solving skills is always a part of my curriculum. In my earlier years of teaching, all of the resources I found for helping teach those skills was above their learning level. Now, years later, Cheri J. Meiners has hit the nail on the head! These are exactly the books I was looking for years ago! The children can relate to the stories and there are questions att he end for the teacher to use with the children. There is also more info in the back like additional books that can be read, vocabulary words, websites, etc. If you want to build character, help develop problem-solving skills and foster social skills in your classroom, then this series of books is for you and your classroom.

This book teaches accepting and valuing others. I think its important that kids learn early to accept others no matter the differences . We all have have something we would like to change about ourselves but I think kids learning to accept themselves no matter what that they will like and love themselves later and they can appreciate others differences with respect. Being kind to other we can always pass it on. I teach my child who is five to set an example and make an effect to practice what we she ask learned in each book. She also tells me what she has done in school each day to pass it on. I have also bought similar book by this same author and other authors . It works if we don't let kid forget who they are and how they can make a difference in the world.

I bought this book along with two others so that I could (1) spend some time with my daughter reading a book before she goes to bed, and (2) Hopefully, teach her some good values about accepting others and celebrating differences. For me, the book accomplished both goals. Although I'm not thrilled with the illustrations, I still recommend the book for its intended purpose.
