Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Want a powerful database application, but don't want to spend the rest of your life learning how to use it? Pick up Alan Neibauer's Access 2000 for Busy People and you'll be data mining with the best of them in minutes.

Tossing out the frills and leaving the deep nitty-gritty for the comprehensive reference tomes, Neibauer tells you what you really need to know to have "instant databases" ready for the boss's perusal Monday morning. Using the trademark visual style of the Busy People series, he exploits the full-color graphics and screen shots to the fullest, showing you time and again how to quickly and easily add, manipulate, and present data.

Chapters cover all the basics--forms, sheets, customizing, queries, reports, and Internet access all find prominence here. There's also a chapter entitled "Stuff To Do Once To Make Your Life Easier," which is a great collection of time-savers and setup routines that delivers just as it promises. Visual and hands-on learners will appreciate the attention paid to showing procedures and encouraging follow-along at the keyboard. Whether you're jumping into the exciting world of Access for the first time or just need a refresher for your upgrade, Access 2000 for Busy People will get you up to speed with the least fuss or interruption of your other important work. --Rob Lightner

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Starter Book, January 7, 2000
By
This review is from: Access 2000 for Busy People (Paperback)
Well-written, attractively and logically laid out. I especially like the "Fast Forward" section indexes. Easy to find what you are looking for, if contained in the book. I think it would be excellent for users with little or no previous database experience.

I ordered standard shipping just before Christmas. While the Neibauer book was enroute, I had already answered most of my own questions through MS Access Help, and my remaining questions were beyond the scope of the book. I would still recommend for beginners, and for learning Access architecture, and plan to keep it around for reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Access Newbies!, March 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Access 2000 for Busy People (Paperback)
I was in great need of a book that would cut to the chase and teach me the BASICS about MS Access 2000. Most of all I wanted (or should I say had to) learn it quick due to a new position I accepted with a firm who expected me to know it. Alan R. Neibauer is a wonder author and teacher who gets away from the computer geek speak and explains in laymans terms. I am sold. Remember, this book is for BEGINNERS only. If you want some advanced or technical book, this is not it! However, after reading this "hands-on" book I am able to put together a database I can be proud of. Best of all, learning was fun! I am now pursuing a more technical access book/course and feel confident that I have a solid foundation. Thanks Alan!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Access 2000 for Busy People (Paperback)
I was directed to use this book when I took an online course to learn Access. I bought the book, through Amazon of course, and was glad that I did. It is extremely well designed and the writing and organization is clear and easy to understand. I would recommend this book as a perfect companion to the software program
